Bit unfair on O'Brien, who I thought did well yesterday. Very effective with the ball, and contributed to some of the best moves of the match, worked really well with Downing in the first half.

We came up at the same time as Southampton

Now, following two managerial changes and even after a massive overhaul in the summer of players, Southampton look streets ahead of us

Blame for that lies with Gold and Sullivan who for some reason think maximum value lies in allowing a manager from the Jurassic era rip the soul out

Until we can move on from starting the likes of Cole, O'Brien and Vaz Te you are going to see very little improvement in the way we move forward.

I am quite happy to have all three players as part of the squad, to come in now and again (much like I was with Taylor last season) but if you are going to rely on these players then you will run into the same problems that we had last time around.

I still cannot understand how Zarate cannot get into that starting eleven.

Love or hate Kevin Nolan, his inclusion is the main reason we have to play the way we do and why we have to have a target man playing.

I don't want to just dig him out but if Nolan wasn't playing there would be more freedom to play different ways and change things if they are not going to plan.

Spurs looked nervous at times and rightly so. They were the ones going to a team who had spanked them 3 times last year. We had an edge and Sam could have gone for the jugular even after the noble miss. We basically allowed a team nervous of us back into the game.

The crowd would have taken the piss with the spurs game if we having scored that penalty ! So fckg frustrating.

The sad thing about this West Ham team is that Nolan arguably created the best two chances - the penalty and the back heel. Nolan would have been hung had he missed the penalty but Noble receives hardly any criticism. Neither should be in the team.

As you say we have Kouyate, Morrison, Poyet, Diame & Noble to pick from in midfield with options in Sahko, Valencia & Zarate up front.
Defeats at Palace, in the Cup to Sheff Utd & at home to Southampton which are entirely possible with Nolan/Cole in place would see us going into a 16 day international break before Hull on Sept 15.
That's the WINDOW

I note that Besiktas will have completed their probably unsuccessful Champions League qualifiers against Arsenal by that point so will be less reluctant to let Bilic leave.

Hahahahahahaha, Nolan putting in 100%.....

That's 1% compared to Kouyate

I actually think that if we have a terrible start to the season and Fat Sam is sacked; there are more options now for a new manager to change the system and use certain players...

There is the possibility of even playing two up-front with Valencia and Sakho to see what they can do together...

We have a fair few options to shake things-up in midfield and give us another dimension...

Of course, only a new manager would do this as the fat oaf will stick to LARD ARSE and CARTHORSE come what may...

Bang on mate.

Nolan actually put in 100% but his 100% is not good enough at this level now for 90 mins. He should be an impact sub.

The problem now is that his inclusion in a team that also includes Noble in central midfield makes us immobile and even worse is that he does not possess the first touch, technique and passing to make use of the ball when he does get it.

We need to be looking at getting another young, good passing, hard working midfielder in. But for now, I would look at a midfield that includes Poyet and Kouyate in the deeper roles with Noble in a more advanced role. Then BFS has a variety of choices/combinations for the remaining midfield /striker spots out wide and upfront.

Spurs are a decent passing side but this was not the best 11 compared with sides they have put out in recent years. Again though, we are dominated for possession in midfield with Noble and Nolan in the team. Its the BFS blind spot and will cost him if not addressed.

Kept an eye on this while I did the dinner but really couldn't be arsed to comment once I'd seen the team on here. Having a wonderful time in Tuscany and I won't let the Fat Scabby Twerp spoil it for me.

Buster

Didnt think we played bad at all, only gripe was not going for it more early on in 2nd half, defence and midfield done ok for me just the non prolific non moving strike force we had out yet again. Fuck knows what G/S must think after spending near on 20 million on 3 forward players an hes picking cole/nolan, surely that cant last much longer, valencias stint on pitch gave me encouragement though, put more effort in 10 mins than CFC an nolan did whole game, definitely needs to be played off another forward though.

Maybe it's because they were only extended highlights but I've watched it on Sky and don't think we actually played too badly, seemed better than last year's drivel.

Downing looked like he had a decent game, Kouyate and Creswell looked very good but attacking wise it's still woeful. Cole and Vaz Te were very poor.

Still enough there to encourage me for Palace and Southampton though with the players to come in.

My season ticket is going to go spare a lot this season. I can't leave my family for the day to watch that. We actually do not attack in any way.

Re: West Ham v Tottenham - Official Match Thread 0-1 FT
What is there to back up this Noble best passer claim and how effective is it supposed to be. Dropping deep and playing mainly short and sideways passes may have its uses and looks great on the stats but it achieves little. His ability to use a range of passing to create openings is very limited. Opportunities to break quickly are often lost when he is involved as momentum is lost.
