I wish I shared your optimism but I can't with the fat cunt at the helm.
We were gutless when a mediocre Tottenham side went down to 10 men and equally cowardly v a shit Div 3 side after going 1-0 up.
I was very impressed with our performance against an admittedly woeful Palace side but I've seen little evidence that the fat slob is going to change from being a spineless prick who loathes cup games.

Iron Duke 7:28 ~ Fully agree

We have already shown that we can play football a lot better than last season

We were desperately unlucky not to beat Spurs who scored a lucky goal on the break in the dying minutes, after we had dominated most of the match

We could (& possibly should) have scored a hatful at Palace

In this game we didn't play the strongest side but the side BFS fielded should have easily overcome the very weak oppostion they were playing

There were a lot of poor performances from senior players (Reid & Morrison to name a couple) but on another night we would have won

Very disappointing, but we're still in transition, with a lot of new faces coming in & a few youngsters being tried

We seem to have a bit of an early crisis at CH, but maybe things might just click into place this season

Watching Millwall v Soton - there seem to be ten times as many Soton fans as Millwall ones

Why was Morrison dropping deep to pick up the ball? Surely Poyet and Diame could have done that, by the sounds of things Morrison was trying to be the Guvnor and just isnt up to it, he is mental. Instead of just playing HIS game and trying to make things happen for the team, he was trying to be everything and do everything for himself..

I think he is a suspect c*nt, he's been given another chance, but no way could you trust him to play a league game..

Morrison was bloody awful, spent the whole game asking for the ball, to then kick it side ways or back. the couple of times he played a through ball it was cut out, and going past 2 players only to get tackled by the 3rd player is a waste of time.
looked and acted like a spoilt kid.

I quite enjoyed it last night, thought we played well and I was excited about the prospects of Valencia and Sakho.

Funnily enough, I thought that the players that everyone tells us on here are BRILLIANT, Reid and Morrison were absolute dog shit. And the players that we are told are FUCKING ABYSMAL, Noble and Downing, were excellent when they came on.

Morrison clearly wasn't fit enough to play his normal game. He was incapable of running at anyone last night and shouldn't have played.

But was it the team he put out or the manner of play dictated by him? I tend to think it was the latter, and that whoever played, the style - if you can call it that - would have been the same. It was so obvious that they were following a strict game plan, with no room for creativity. Morrison was back picking up the ball from the back four FFS, whereas he should have been in their half all game running at the northern fuckers and shitting themselves.

As I've been saying for five years, I don't see why we can't play our best team in these competitions.

We're not in europe, we don't need to "rest" players two games into the season and we're not going to win anything else.

Pick the first team and see how far we get.

Re: Official Match Thread West Ham United 1(4)- Sheffield United 1(5) - Sheff Utd win on Pens
I don't think we had a weak team and by all accounts we should have won, if not convincingly.

Maybe the manager made too many changes. Maybe he treated it like a friendly. Maybe too many of the most senior players put in mediocre performances. Maybe it's just one of those things and on another day we would have won and be looking forward to the draw for the next round with our usual blinkered optimism.

It is annoying to lose to these twats, just as it was annoying to lose to the yids. At least we're not playing the shit one dimensional hhofball we were playing most of last season, and we have some good young players coming through.

Sheff Utd will return to playing Grimsby or whoever and will soon be forgotten.

Very disappointing.
Team was not the best we could field, but should have won.
But it did not, BFS screwed up and
BFS has demonstrated again that he does not care about cup competitions.
It is shit to have a manager that does not try and win all the time.
BFS would not tolerate a player that does not try and win all the time, but he thinks it is okay for him to do just that.

Can't complain about the team picked or the level of player brought on. I didn't see it but it sounds like we did create chances but didn't take them and lacked sharpness and cohesion. Neither is surprising so early in the season with a group of players who have not played together long.

Disappointing result for sure - staying in would have allowed us to give more match time to players on the fringe or coming back to fitness but it was not to be.
I'm more interested in our league results and performances to be honest. Still got the FA Cup to have a go at.

There was nothing wrong with the starting line up - just the fat man's gutless tactics, which has now been witnessed so often these past 12 months it's become as nauseating as it is life sapping.

It was a good side we put out, but they looked like they hadn't played together.. Whereas Sheff Utd looked organised and solid. I don't think there's anything to panic about from it.

I agree with playing weakened sides in the League Cup which is good for the squad. Against Sheffield United, however, it was unforgivable and a betrayal of our loyal fans,

13 Brentford Rd 4:01 Wed Aug 27

Thx Brentford. Well there are many that are saying, me included, that Kouyate is not a holding / defensive midfielder as he looks to link defence and attack with surging runs etc... So there may be a role for Poyet in some games, especially against the top sides, where we want a player to sit deep in the style of Makele, to protect the defence, close down the opposition, win the second ball and 50:50s etc,.. Of course, these would be games where we would expect to be more of a 19th century side. I would think a central midfield 3 with Poyet and Kayoute or Noble in front of the back four and 1 more in the link up role in front (again could be Noble or Kouyate), 2 wide men and a striker (in a 4-2-3-1 formation) would be very combative and make any opposition work hard to get anything. If we have some quicker options like Valencia, Zarate or Lee in the advanced midfield or up top, we would also be nicely set up for counter attacking.

Of course, would need a manager to try something like that. So sounds like Poyet could have a place, certainly in games we where we want to stifle the opposition, but we might well need a change of manager to see him get the DM role :)
