Re: West Ham v FC Astra - Official Match Thread FT (2-2)
They caused us problems in the last 20 minutes because we had ten men, a tired side, no subs left, a 16 year old at centre half and an 18 year old centre half at right back.

It was a highly unusual and unlucky set of circumstances, so I wouldn't be reading too much into it going forward.

The Europa has been useful in terms of building fitness, looking at players (young and old) and trying out one or two new things. However, this being WH, luck seems to be against us and it's now doing more damage than good. Send a development squad to Romania and merely ask them to hold their heads up and play with pride, irrespective of the result. If they go through, the same teams starts next match. If not, we're shot of a cup that is already undermining us for the PL.

It's clear SB wants out as well IMO. I don't think he ever really wanted in either!

Texas' strain of thick is so virulent that even operating systems can catch it.

The best managers for getting tossed in Baseball were Lou Piniella and Billy Martin:

Lou made it into an art form:

I'm not going to lie, I like a manager not afraid to get sent off provided it isn't just stupidity. Particularly in baseball in the states, it's seen as protecting your players and a way to motivate them, but the umpires also won't hesitate to throw a player out for arguing a call so it's a bit of a different dynamic.

Players surrounding the ref is something that a lot of yanks can't get their head around. I'm pretty bad as a player when it comes to jawing at the ref but I also feel you need to keep them honest.

Haven't seen either 2nd or 3rd round, but from the comments, I fear Bilic will have his work cut out when we start the season. It might be for the best if we didn't reach the group stage of Europa. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see us in it, but we have a lot of moving pieces currently.

Gavros : Valencia went off after about 35 minutes of the first half not the last 30.

The last 30-odd minutes were an absolute nightmare.

Stupid, reckless second yellow from Collins.

Throwing away a game we were cruising.

Likely losing one of our few strikers for the best part of a year.

Zarate is not supposed to be a first choice player, I don't think.

So you do what was successful last year and press with your forwards wide.

But back to the original point, I don't remember them have that much joy out wide, especially when we had three men in midfield.

After we went down to ten men and they had battered and wound up Cresswell a fair bit their #9 was pulling him wide all the time but none of their chances really came from that.

>>> not sure why bilic did not address the threat from both wings, we were too narrow and our full backs were one on one many times after collins got sent off

Didn't see the game last night, but this comment worries me. This is my major fear for the new season - that Bilic is going to use some sort of roving attacking force with Payet and Zarate that is too narrow and that we're going to get caught time and time again on the break.

Re: West Ham v FC Astra - Official Match Thread FT (2-2)
Just saw the Bilic post match interview...

Hardly an inspirational message...dejected...negative...bumbling...

Says he will play second squad in Romania...

does he really think our full first team...??? squad has a chance against Arsenal...

Odds on us losing both...

Will he get a ban for his sending off...???

Hardly a lesson in Discipline for his squad...

Self inflicted...or Romanian tackle...???

Was Valencia's injury from another of their 'clean' tackles? I couldn't see it properly.

I actually thought Ogbonna did well. Oxford was the standout though, followed by Payet.

Re: West Ham v FC Astra - Official Match Thread FT (2-2)
Collins red was well deserved, he was an idiot.

Add Cresswell being a silly cunt and getting booked (correctly) for dissent and you have to worry a little bit about the lack of discipline shown the last few weeks.

J.Riddle 3:30 Fri Jul 31
Re: West Ham v FC Astra - Official Match Thread FT (2-2)
How was Ogbonna. Forgetting the own goal he looked slow and lethargic to get back on the highlights?
