Excluding the younger players and a couple of others,,,
it seems the Usa and Austria really was a holiday.

our lads just aren't up to the fitness levets of where they
should be... which is why we have been over-run by
Chelsea and late in the game by Astra.

That's the spirit.

It hasn't been a great start, some odd decisions have gone on, but you don't usually strike me as one of the devastation drama queens. We'll come good sooner rather than later.

Fair point that, I have been a right old whinging bastard recently and generally see the best in things, I'll go and have a stern word with myself

I draw your attention to your previous quote:

"Well, no one likes a smart arse but I draw your attention to my previous posts - the bloke is shite"

That after one game where he just joined his team mates after a long inter continental flight

Regardless of what fucking Vickery has said, it behooves you to give the bloke a chance the same chance you are giving to Obiang and for your information, far from being shite, he was one of the better players on the field last night

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
FC - Fair point but out of context

Some on here were treating Calleri's arrival as the answer to our striking problem, on the balance of probability and what we saw last night he will as Vickery said, be 'likely to sniff a few out but is nothing to get WH fans excited'

Obiang showed enough to warrant a spin beyond the odd game or few minutes here and there, last night he was a let down

W4 - I agree about the fitness. It doesn't look like we've had a pre season but still halfway through it.

We were second to a lot of balls and easily knocked out of possession, much like we were on Monday.

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
Didnt see the whole match- agree Burke looked like he was sharper mentally and physically than anyone on the pitch- very good to see.

Tore looked like the player who Harry gave the boots to against oxford city all those years ago...althought didnt he actually score?!

Overall i'd say we are undercooked, underprepared and miles away from where we need to be fitness-wise. There's clear issues around the injuries to key players however we should be able to bring players into a formation against a rank side like that and do alot better- barely strung more than three or four passes together - a bit like Monday night.

Lots of work still to be done in the second leg...

Should put in a cheeky bid for that Alibec as he looked a bit lively when he came on.

Given the financial situation in Romania we should get him for about £10k and £50 a week.

I'd worry if I felt we had to win the league this season, as it looks like we're not up to it yet, but that's nobody's target at West Ham. One day, perhaps, but nowhere near yet.

Last night was a good excercise for the squad. We will need the whole squad to get used to playing with each other in numerous combinations, so young and more expereinced palyers alike will benefit from these Euro squad mix ups.

If we want to make waves in the PL and Europe, we can't be thinking in terms of a first 11, but a whole host of 11s.

Oxford got more valuable experience, as did Burke, who was outstanding, considering he played in an unusual position. Browne got a run out and should have a received a boost from his cameo, which really should have included an assist on his CV; Antonio will be kicking himself for the second match in a row for that glaring miss. Tore went a long way to getting his fitness up to scratch, and he showed glimpses of what he's about, and I expect him to show more and more as he settles into his rhythm.

I hope we qualify for the group stages, and I don't care if it puts us a few places down in the league, just as long as the squad as a whole gets some good experience of playing together and playing against different nationalities, as it will help us push on in the longer run. As the commentator mentioned, Redknapp used alot of spurs' youngsters in these matches, who have gone on to be much better players as a result.

We are not a club in crisis.

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
Perhaps, perhaps Bilic is using the friendlies, the first 4 EL games and the opening game against Chelsea, where with Payet and Lanzini not being available, a point would of been great. He's seeing if certain players can play in various roles because even with a larger better squad this season will be even more demanding. He's thought he has to try this now rather than during the hurly burly of the autumn. He's said it himself, the first 5 fixtures are on top of itself. I reckon he was thinking 5 points from the first 3 PL games. Then comes the International break.Lanzini will be back and he will know how his players can play.
He is thinking that we should beat Astra over 2 leg's even if it is a patchy display.
With a bigger pitch and Payet playing we should over come them with ease.
I think we will have to wait until mid September for things to settle down completely.
A win on Sunday will help never the less. Then a win against Astra who have to score.
Frustrating I know but I think we all have to settle down .

I'm not wetting my knickers over last night's game. It was a good try out for Calleri and the kids.

We'll have Arthur back for Bournemouth and hopefully Byram at RB. With Payet and Fegouli back and Calleri in for Valencia we should be pretty decent. Can't wait for Lanzini to be back.

Crassus, so you are an advocate of giving Obiang a fair crack, who has had a few games for us already but not for Calleri after one fucking game that he only just met his team mates after a long flight from Argentina?

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
The team more or less picked itself last season once it had settled down.
Appears Bilic has more names at his disposal this season, with certain positions top heavy.
Feel it is going to be quite a journey for everything to click and to find his favoured starting eleven.
While he has been brilliant for us last season, Bilic decision making appears scrambled at times. Often we started so slow last season, but had confidence we could improve during games such was the quality.
Just hope Bilic does not tinker too much. Antonio should be played out on the RIGHT upfield.
Some grumblings now how he has set teams up, and can feel a lot more head scratching for some time until he has seen enough.

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
I have said my bit on Tore and the Argie and we all see Valencis as at best struggling, so when you add them to the injury situation, team disruption, the pitch and general rustyness is was never going to be a fluid performance - on balance an acceptable result I guess.

Must say though, I was hugely unimpressed with Obiang. I have been an advocate of him having a fair crack but last night, with a real chance to dominate, he played like a bloke who either did not care or was preserving his self for a transfer, perhaps both - shame

Ofthe kids, they all showed an assurity but also have a ricket in them as you may expect. Real prospects though who just need experience. Not sure that Byram is ready as full time RB, he has lapses of concentration and lunges into the book as a result

They all look a little off colour in terms of fitness, which I cant quite fathom, match fitness understandable, physical fitness I dont understand
