We've got too many players who are quite simply not fired up enough to put in the shift required.Too many slow to get going and not enough consistent performers, they are so inconsistent we've become used to it and excepted it for far too long.

Where's the proof? Spurs at home last season....

Ayew is a terrible footballer, you'd have to go a long way to find a worse player in the PL than him considering what we paid.
It's not as if he's likely to improve. The bloke doesn't know what day off the week it is.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 3-2
I also agree that ayew is a joke.
What is the point of him?
I don't get what he's meant to doing?

The watched the highlights on motd and its way too favourable to us. We were shit for most of the game. Second to the ball for most of the 1st half.

And the first goal.. wtf. Does any of those players in defence realise that people not "space" score goals. So all 4 are running back to cover the space and not thinking of trying to pick up the only player coming in behind to score. I mean seriously? What coaching is happening here?

4 against 1 and couldn't pick the guy up.

I do believe we have a very good squad here. We have better players than Huddersfield or stoke etc.. we just have the wrong coach. It's pretty obvious now because the mistakes keep happening.

I mean is snodgrass really that shit or is he not being told what to do properly? You can't tell anymore.

That's because some of our fans believe that because Noble is SO WEST AMMMMM he can do no wrong. The bloke got a 5 yr deal which was criminal in itself. Suited to the Championship at somewhere like QPR. Never rated him and never will, far too obvious a player and one dimensional

I see Charlie Austin changed his mind over where to place the pen because of noble goading him.

He would have placed it exactly where Hart went.

Good work noble

Albeit v Palace and Newcastle but well done Huddersfield. Great start to the season for them. May not have superstar players but obviously work as a TEAM and have a manager who knows what he is doing. 6 points from 6

Has anyone acyually mentionedor realised that we lost, again, mainly because, well, we are not actually that good a team and are a bit shit?

I only realised Ayew was on the pitch when he got subbed.

We lost this game because our CBs were shit. Collins is way better than both - he's always made himself first choice by the end of the season, so I can't see any reason for delaying making him that now.

I'm not sure anyone else had a particularly poor game, though I hate Ayew and am becoming very fristrated with the self-assured and confident way Hart passes the ball to the opposition every single time. I'm far from convinced he's an upgrade on Adrian.

Sven.

It doesn't matter he was committed to the tackle if the referee blew up before contact.

According to the rules. It's not as if Noble pushes him or slaps him, if the referee blows up,when a tackle is mid tackle, then the tackle is not part of the game.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 3-2
That's my point.

Only a really shit ref would be so poorly acquainted with the rules that he thought he could do nothing because the ball wasn't in play.

icwhs 3:00 Sun Aug 20
Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 3-2
The ref saw 100% the Noble tackle, but knew he'd already blown up on the Arnautovic head injury, which the ref didn't see the leading arm, can't send off the player if he doesn't see it, so he got those 2 correct to be fair.

The foul on Hernandez, when I first saw it live also looked just a yellow to me, it's only in hindsight of action reply it looked red, a bit harsh but red.

Arnautovic was blatantly red.

My only gripe with Mason was the soft penalty in added time, but if it had been the other way around? We'd be up in arms over it not given.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 3-2
Noble was committed to that tackle before the ref stopped the game.
Either way would it be the case that because neither Lemina or Noble were punished that they both could be done on video evidence?
If they do then Noble hasn't got a leg to stand on.

Mainly cos it's imbedded in the Southampton players thigh

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 3-2
Ayew has zero understanding with his teammates - he doesn't know what they are going to do, and they don't know what he is going to do, more than half the time.

Unless I'm mistaken, none of his goals have come about by him being on the end of a proper move, but by being in the right place when it's all broken down.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 3-2
Noble getting away without even a yellow shows what a really shit ref he was.

Did he think that as the ball wasn't technically in play (he blew his whistle a split second before the tackle) meant he couldn't do anything?

Me making this point doesn't mean that I don't agree that the two Southampton players should have gone, and probably Noble's tackle wouldn't have been made if that had been the case.

Haven't seen much of the game and won't read the reports but did Obiang get on at all?

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 3-2
I think we all saw the risk of playing 4-2-4. Bilic might not think that it is but the players picked meant that Rice and Noble would be handling the counter attacks, expected to do the closing down and work in midfield. Antonio, Arnautovic do give some help but it was the choice of Ayew again that I could not understand and what many of us were saying on the match thread when the teams were announced.

As V and others say, it puts pressure on the back four and midfield when they are in possession unless you have a Klopp type midfielder like Sane who puts in a shift defensively. Even Lanzini does track back and try to help cover.

The more I watch Ayew , the more I am confused to what he is? A forward, midfielder, wide player? He just could not get into the game and yet was left on the field last week and most of this week. He seems best to be played up front in a partnership. Midfield he is a liability and especially on the road where the first rule is to keep it tight and defend well.

He was Bilic's transfer pick last season and yet another dud, an expensive one too. We will get less than half what we paid for him when he moves on which will happen when a new manager comes in.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 3-2
To me the Southampton reds were straight forward decisions.
Tadic leads with a straight leg and almost disembowels Hernandez.
Lemina leads with the elbow and aims it at Arnautovic's head.

Far far worse than what Robson-Kanu got sent off for at Burnley.
