Easily the best thing about the performance was how slimming the new away shirts are.
I'm sure the likes of Brian Dear, Razor Ruddock and Kevin Nolan are gutted they didn't have them in their day.

Noble still has a role to play but as a squad member not starter. An indicator of progress for me is when Nobes is starting on the bench for games or filling in when there are injuries. He provides a connection for Bilic on the pitch and the manager needs to start looking at that role too as Noble winds down his career.

The other thing to mention is Ayew. Yes he scored last night but for me he is Bilic's "Nolan". Has a nothing role and usually on the periphery of games like Fernandes.

To progress we need more intensity across the team and midfield especially. So the likes of Ayew, Noble and Fernandes for me should be bench warmers. We shall see.

I get what you are saying Lily. Im not saying he had a mare. Just that with Obaing and Rice playing last night id expect Noble against league two opposition to try and be more of a threat going forward. Bit more creative, getting into the box.

Im not having he was the main reason we kept posession, he moved the ball about yes.....but id expect any of our players to be able to do that against them.

For me if Carvalho comes in then its him and Rice or Obiang as the pairing with the one missing out first in reserve.

Not sure I can see Bilic dropping him though which may hinder us long term.

BTW, special mention for the away kit combined with white shorts................looked utterly ridiculous.

The shirt looks like a cheap t shirt, possibly the worst away kit ever

I still think Fernandes looks very talented, like when he clicks he might become a very very good player. But I don't understand what the plan with him is - where was he even playing last night? Somewhere in attacking midfield? I'm not convinced he's benefitting from the coaching, I think they need to settle on one condition rather than playing him differently each match, and if he doesn't even speak English yet someone should be making sure he learns it.

Yeah, to be fair, I meant he only made one bad mistake, which is I think what you mentioned, when he wanted to pass back to a CB and nearly put an attacker in on goal. I can't think of any other times he made a bad mistake, and the point still stands that he helped keep things together more than he was in any way bad for the teams performance.

Summary, Noble was a big asset last night and not a liability.

Re: ⚽ Cheltenham v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 0-2
enjoyed that trip and job done - a couple more goals and we would be cartwheeling through Thursday.

Cant really add much towards the balanced views from below - apart from add..

Rice- very very impressed - the part Im impressed most with he is very athletic and just ghosts in nicks the ball and is away before you know it- won possession a number of times this way

Chek- great to see the big man back- we've missed him!

Nobes- if you think he only lost possession once you are kidding me- i'd say it was 6-10 times and always over complication- including one in the second half when he tried a flick to where there was no CB anywhere near. ANd fuck we are back to him taking all corners and free kicks...really? Really west ham is this the best we can do!?

Sakho - looks very fit and sharp and could be fucking awesome with Chico

Fernandez- has the weakest tackle and gets brushed off the ball too often= maybe its a bit too physical for him

Overall, we are still moving the ball half a fast as we should and this is our real problem - I watched leicester v sheff utd on Tuesday and even with a scratch side out Leicester were making triangles, moving the ball at pace back to front and turning the blades players constantly. Noone seems to want to break tackle and run on

I think we are a long long way away from what we all want. Lets see

I was enjoying Ginge's little foray's up front with the ball at his feet. By his usual standards, he was effectively playing tikka takka at times.

I agree. Collins was awesome tonight. I still think he should play alongside Reid when he is fit. I dont rate Fonte and Ogbonna does get himself in trouble. Collins is a no nonsense old school defender

"Noble - Moves the ball sideways far to much. Him and Rice playing means we really do lack consistent attacking/penatrive passes from our DM's to our forwards"

He gave the ball away just once last night. Other than that, while he was on the pitch he was the main reason we kept possession and he got an assist with a penetrating threaded through ball, and later showed great vision, speed of thought and skill to play a lovely ball off the outside of his boot to set Fernandez clean through.

I can't understand how some of you lot, as you're not the only one Rossal, who think he had a bad game. Once he went off was when we looked a bit more ropey, trying not very successfully to kill the game off.

All about opinion, I suppose, but the

Geoff Hurst has lived in the town for a few years now. He lost his daughter to Cancer a few years back and does a lot to help to local LINC (leukemia) charity. Often see him around.

Geoff Hurst managed to get his free ticket last night sitting in front of Sullivan last night. I didn't know he lives over that way.

Sullivan didn't look at all well I have to say.Must be the strain from the transfer window wheeling and dealing. The tight arsed git should employ a proper director of football to take some of the pressure off.

Re: ⚽ Cheltenham v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 0-2
Job done, and a good draw in the next round to give this comp a good go. Travelling support were decent and we came through it injury free it seems

Plus points

Sakho - thats the sharpest i've seen him in a long time. Always willing to run the channels and took his goal well. If and its a big if....he stays fit then he looks good backup to Chicarito.

Rice - Looks a real player, was MOTM for me. A performance like that at 18 was very impressive. He doesnt do anything spectacular but always seems to make the right decision and doesnt shirk responsibility. Happy to take the ball in tight areas, technically is superb and gets around the pitch alot more then Noble it seems. Was on the cover to sweep up alot and for me he starts up at the Toon.

Ginge - Yet again as ive said many times on this forum he came in and was excellent. So solid at the back and a threat going forward. Starts on sat and moves miles ahead of Fonte.

Other mentions - Adrian played well, did what he needed to. Obiang second half i thought looked back to his best and uses the ball much more efficiently than Noble. Ayew after the goal looked to gain confidence and start to play abit more freely. There is a player in there just need to get him away from RW. He cuts in far to much.

Negative points

Full backs - Both of them were pretty poor going forward and still not great defensivly. Arthurs challenge i dont think was a pen but was a typically clumsy no need to make tackle from him

Noble - Moves the ball sideways far to much. Him and Rice playing means we really do lack consistent attacking/penatrive passes from our DM's to our forwards

Fernandes - Was awful, no threatt going forward, heavy touches. Doesnt seem to have got any better since we got him and whats his best position?

Bilic - Disappointed no Martinez and Holland on the bench and then only giving Quina 4 minutes at the end. Why not give him 15-20? Baffled as to why he sent Chicarito on, madness if he picked up a injury
