Only watched Bobby towards the end of his career, but watched Rio from the start until he left and Declan looks twice the player imho.

vexed, i dont for a minute think it's an insult to compare Declan with the great sir bobby. i think it was stepney who said that he (declan) looked so cool on the ball. i watched sir bobby from the old north bank for many years and young declan really does look like him learning his trade.
if young declan had sir bobbys flowing locks, i'd have to look twice as to whether i was seeing the great, young man . the similarity is astounding.
if west ham continues on this upward trajectory, then i can see the boy staying for a very long time and becoming a true whu legend like nobes, a one club man.

North...
re Wilshere...
Did he have a thorough Medical...
Surely a proper medical would have identified his weakness to ankle injuries...and others???

Re: West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
Texas I think it's Pellegrini's plan to play him deeper alongside Rice, he played him there with Noble earlier in the season, of course it was flawed as neither has any pace, but that's where I see him fitting in, if at all

I'm hoping Wilshere's deal is based on "minutes on the pitch"
If Nasri continues in his current form...he won't play much...

northern sold,
You've gone quiet for once. Stratford will never be like Upton Park it's well out of our hands.
Beating Arsenal yesterday was the bollocks, from where I was the ground was packed and a decent atmosphere for an early kick off.
The new place is far from perfect but for the fist time in years without getting too carried away were on the up.
No doubt you'll respond to this spouting bollocks about watching the match in Basildon/Southend,it's a good job 50 odd thousand don't have the narrow mindset like you.

Really great to see us play Arsenal off the park and beat then deservedly.

Yes, Arsenal played a bit better in the last part of the game, which partly showed we needed Nasri, Antonio and Arnautovic on the pitch to be at our best. However, their chances were limited to off side and near misses, great to see.

Nasri is a great signing.

I noticed as well Joey, that Noble, instead of diving in on the edge of the box like he does, was doing a similar thing to the full backs and standing his ground, defending the D.

Maybe a reason why he wasn't booked early in the game, like what normally happens to him.

Yarmouth - I couldn't agree more with your post!

The only thing I would moan about yesterday was that Pelli's hair looked a bit more wilder than usual at the after-match press conference and needs to get his barnet trimmed next week!!

It’s a measured tactic from Pellers. He likes to pack the middle - he said it in an interview earlier in the season. He feels we’re good at dealing with crosses.

Angryprumps,

That's right what you're saying, but that applies to us more as a team. We're a team that likes being on the front foot now.

What im more getting at, is that when the opposition gets close to our box, the fullbacks are tucked in all the time, inside the box, giving space on the wings all time. So it always looks like other team has an extra man out wide. I think that was the point Ronald Antly was making.

I don't get why a lot of lads are saying Arsenal weren't great, not a good Arsenal side etc etc. They are a good side, they had us on our toes quite often but we were simply better all round than them yesterday and we should applaud that.

We have some fkn good players now and MP is blending them into a unit. You're going to give up chances to good teams, its how you handle it and then respond to it and yesterday and for a good few weeks now we've been doing both very well indeed.

We'll still have hiccups, Burnley & that shite Watford for example, but we're a solid mid table side now with potential to make top 8 with steady progress.

I thought at the start of the season we were fucked, but we've turned it round even with a string of injuries, and we're moving up.

With Nasri I can't see how Wilshire will get a look now, Lanzini & Yarmalenco to come back & Rice becoming a top player a great future is in store.

If we pushed the boat out and got a top draw striker in it really does make you wonder where it could lead..

I think it is actually something we do far LESS now, whenever we went a goal up (or even at 0-0 vrs big teams) both Allardyce and Moyes teams would try to soak up pressure. Was bloody horrible to watch.

Not one of the great arsenal sides, but they aren’t bad. We stopped them playing. We should be focusing on how good we were, especially in the middle.

No problem jfk - just great to be comparing our players with top stars rather than some of the dross we’ve endured in the dim and recent past!

Re: West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
The thing is Arsenal changed the way they played in the second half because they had too. One nil down and nothing to lose but all to gain so more men were thrown forward. We coped with that and with a bit more wit might have doubled our lead.

How refreshing it is to have three points to protect rather than one.

"For most of the second half we dropped deep, and yet somehow still had their players turning up unmarked all over the shop."

I noticed that as well.

I think our whole defence just retreats to inside the penalty area when the other team is on the attack. Maybe its due to the fact that our full backs are slow, so they may as well stay in the box so there is hardly any room for the other team to exploit, rather than get skinned out wide and leave the CB's exposed.

Algate,
You can bring up names all you like but for now rice is the bollocks and brilliant to see the best young (English/Irish)in the league playing and enjoying his time at West Ham.
We all know if he continues the way he is he'll go to the very top.
I for one am enjoying him maturing and improving at a pace wearing our jersey.
