100% spot on, Demba Ba is a good shout, but seems to have a better attitude. Still a bit early to be bringing Ashton into the conversation, and I think he was a more complete finisher (could literally score from anywhere) but I havent been as excited by a striker in a long long time.

I just love how he always seems to pick a good option and is such a team player, alongside someone who can find space in the box.

In fact watching Haller, Lanzini and Anderson in the second half was the happiest I have been watching West Ham for a long, long time.

I watched Haller very closely on Saturday and his movement off the ball is exactly why he is such a lovely player. The way he can anticipate a pass, ghost away into space, outsmart his marker then do him for pace is beautiful to watch. It's everything I love about watching football live and a little bit more complicated than 'a tap in'.

The last striker I loved watching was probably Demba Ba but I will put my neck out and say he's got the potential to be our new Dean Ashton in his pomp. I pray he stays fit.

Haller’s overhead kick to tap the ball in was impressive, there are not many that could have pulled that off. Watch his youtube videos from Germany he has and obviously will score very impressive goals in addition to the tap ins. I was a little disappointed when he broke away with the ball and only had one to beat, but did not get through for the goal. However, overall I can see he is going to do brilliantly in the Premier with us.

Does it matter what type of goal he scores as long as he scores when the opportunities present themselves?

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Norwich - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Last season in the EPL there were 1076 goals scored. In open play 18 goals were scored from outside the box. In fact the success rate for free kicks exceeds that of open play goals.

You can see why statistically manager’s prefer players not to take a long shot.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Norwich - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
He doesnt seem to like to have a pop from far out, seems to be looking for the pass instead. Not sure that is a bad thing. The way we play is very similar to Frankfurt, with him the central pivot between two attacking wide players. His role is to hold up play, get wider attackers into the game and then follow into box for the finish.

If you are waiting for a worldie from outside the box, not sure it is going to happen for a while.

I've watched every game. I'm impressed with him, I think he's the real deal.

Its not his fault, he's scored the chances he was presented with.

I just haven't seen any other sort of goal yet. Not knocking him, just waiting to see a bit more.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Norwich - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Rio, the fact that he scores tap ins is one of the best things about him. He brings so much more to our general play AND he can score the shit goals. He can do pretty much everything better than any of our recent strikers, who were only really good at one or two things.

He can hold it up, good in the air, pick a pass, can tackle / happy to close down, plays with his head up, doesnt waste the ball, has good pace and gets in the position to score. At one point on Sat, he was pinned in by two players on the touchline, held it up and then played a sublime back heal to put us on the attack. I think he adds so much to our game and could get 20+ goals.

Have you actually watched any of his games so far? Or just highlights?

Yeah overhead head kick goals only count is they come in from outside the penalty area otherwise its just an overhead tap in

Always improve but the only real concern from Saturday was not finishing more chances.

I can't think of many of those that fall on Haller.

He is doing very well to thing point and seems to have the right attitude. Also has some very good players behind him.

His overall game is pretty much the full package. If he keeps doing all the things he has been doing, I'll live without him smashing in 30 yard screamers.

He's strong, intelligent, holds the ball up well, good in the air with flick ons, passing is good and usually the right decision.

Reading up on his game, he rarely shoots in a hit and hope way. He'll pull the trigger when he has a clear sight of goal, otherwise he'll keep possession by finding a team mate.

I’m happy his goals have been from inside the six yard box. It means he’s getting into the position we need and scoring proper strikers goals. The instinct and movement is there.

No one else at the club has done that in years.
Bonus is that his hold up play an distribution is excellent too. He will sit deeper but then get into the box. And none of this going out wide and staying there stuff.

Villa will be tough. I know its an old cliché but it is just so true. We will have to go there and earn the right to play. Their game-plan will be to make the game as physical as possible and to bully us into submission and capitalise.

If Villa do beat a team into submission they do then have the players that can hurt you and score goals.

We will need to be right on it from the first whistle and fight them toe to toe until the game settles and stretches. If we are still in it by that point we have the quality to beat them.

Played really well. Could of been 4 or 5 and thats without the stone wall penalty. Anderson superb, Lanzini awesome......Masuaku a real threat going forward and a clean sheet.

Well played West Ham......i fancy us to go unbeaten in the next 2 too
