I'm normally one of the more optimistic posters on this forum, which is not all that difficult. However, our inability to beat a very poor Arsenal side, who barely played for more than 10 second half minutes, is appalling. I'm afraid that Pellegrini looks like a "dead man walking" now. This really just can't be allowed to continue for much longer!

Fornals is looking better.
i think he'll score on Wednesday.
I would like Holland in for Anderson who still looked lazy and let players ghost by him. However Fornals played well on the left,is that his preffered position ? Or could he play in that central role..

With the exception of Roberto we arn't a terrible team.we have lacked any confidence of late.
Fingers crossed we don't lose Wednesday.Hopefully beating Chelsea pretty comfortably will turn our season around.

Surprisingly, Fornals is starting to look like the sort of player we need. Previously we’ve had too many luxury-style ‘lazy Latinos’ but Fornals has the sort of dogged, scrappy attitude of someone like Snodgrass.

Fornals, Noble, Rice, Snograss looks a solid midfield four to me, especially when confidence is low and you need to dig yourself out of a hole. I’d even try out Haller in the hole, Bergkamp-style and have Antonio up front nipping at their heels.

I’d like to see Antonio played as the central forward behind Haller in a side with a midfield of Lanzini, Fornals, Rice and Noble.

I was also disappointed not to see those 2 on the pitch together yesterday, I'm sure they would've torn a big hole in the chelsea defence. In the end Antonio came off looking completely knackered. Great result.

Amazing result. Let’s hope they can kick on.

Still not convinced by Pellegrini though ...

Yep lovely ball by Anderson to set the goal up.

Having slagged off Anderson and Fornals.

I've just watched the replay of our goal and its a fine cross field pass from Anderson to Fornals and a little trick pass from him to Cresswell. Hmmm

Having a goalkeeper that can catch a football has been the biggest change.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
EVERYTHING was wrong in recent performances and attitude. We were beaten in most games in the first five minutes.

Antonio is a shining light, and last weeks second half appearance gave the team a fillet they needed, he was that spark that carried on yesterday.
I expect most of you have played in games where you see a team mate getting stuck in etc, and it rubs off on you and the team. The whole performance goes up.

You need players putting some about, earn that right to win.
Antonio has given us a chance to survive, and our new keeper of course.

Ideally we would wait till the end of the season in order not to panic changing managers, not sure if the team played for themselves manager or us yesterday, but more of that please

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
I think we should go a bit more overboard on Antonio's performance...

He played well, and when he's fit and firing he's an effective player, but the fact that we are relying on Antonio, after spending £180mil on the team, just to look half a threat up top is mental. And even worse, it is beyond the pale how he stuck with Roberto for all those winnable games we had when he had a perfectly capable keeper who genuinely loves West Ham sitting on the bench. Unforgiveable.

Manager still has to go, for me.

Great performance yesterday, what a difference it made to have a decent Keeper between the sticks. Martin should play until Fabianski is fit, maybe even have the 19 year old keeper on the bench. I doubt any of us want to see Roberto coming onto the pitch again, including most of the players.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
I don't want Haller to play like Antonio.

I want him to play like Haller can, and thrive off the space and disarray in the opposition defence that Antonio creates.

We're a different team with Antonio in the side, and I think Haller works in that team.

Big shame they weren't on the pitch at the same time yesterday.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
Greta game yesterday. It was a different team. Goalie set the base for a confident performance. The new boys still need to up their game though. Anderson really is starting to annoy me.
Well done Pellegrini and the team.
Despite of that horrific run, we are still in a good position to finish high up the table.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
And, to be blunt, it made a huge difference yesterday when we had a solid goalkeeper who spoke to his defence the whole game and made rational decsions about when to come for the ball, when to stay, when to punch, when to catch etc.

We have missed Fabianski enormously and Roberto was a horrific, irrational and error-prone back-up.

Martin should get a run of games now.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
Fair point, that, H&P. Over-extertion does mean that players enter that 'zone' - for want of a better term - in which they risk injury. But, for me, it's about making the team fitter and stronger. I'm not sure there has been enough of a focus on that under Manny.

At times this season we have looked physically far weaker than our opponents, who have been able to bully us around. That's what has led to the idea that we've become a bunch of 'Latino pushovers': technically good players (who happen to be Spanish, French or Portuguese speaking) who won't or don't exert themselves.

Pochettino had this problem when he first got to Spurs. He had a number of technically-gifted players who were, however accurately, perceived as a bit lazy: like Dembele. He spent his first year getting Spurs fitter, stronger and working harder, while still playing attacking football. And they flourished.

Manny needs to do the same with our side. We've got good players (although we are weak in some areas, like full-back). But we look like unfit pushovers at times.

Antonio was a revelation to some yesterday because he put in the energy levels and effort we have rarely seen from our forwards this season.
