Barnsley currently playing with more bottle and less fear against Chelsea than we did against Man U the other night. Embarrassing.

Its probably been said, but Antonio should have been rested for Fulham so he could have started against MU. Mipo would have given a much better showing against Fulham and may have been more effective than a half fit Antonio anyway.

Can easily forgive the kid for fucking up in given scenario.

Whilst the owners show they will never put the football first what WestHam Family has stated is the correct interpretation.

It's the owners who can't give a manger the freedom to put out a strong second string and still expect to give the big clubs a game.....

...those fuckers should have the whole hog and named us specifically how they invest in the squad....

Elasto Plaistow is our true name.......

..Dear Sir Alf,

Thank you for your cogent analysis.

All of West Ham Family were born in West Ham.

My Grand Father supported Thames Iron works; he was a docker. My Father took me to Upton Park when I was about 5. It was freezing cold there was snow on the pitch and Billy Wright was playing for Wolves,

To think we were close to relegation last season and are now 6 th is a tribute to the players and Moyse..

I love the way our heads do not go down if we concede an early goal.

Let`s hope we continue to do well in the League and we would be very happy with 5th or 6 th place.

WHF / Fenton.

Thats largely how I saw it too.

While we would all love to take the game to teams like we managed to do to an extent against Villa, United are at the best when they get in behind teams ( ohh errr). We made it very difficult for them but without Antonio there was no out ball and it didnt stick, no pace up top on the counter and it came straight back. That said, there was that 3 on 2 moment when 4Nails fluffed his lines and of course the Dawson header at the end of 90 mins where he could not get a strong enough contact.

But it simply came down to one team having a much stronger depth and quality of squad IMO. Yes Moyes could have started with Benrahma or Lanzini or introduced them earlier but we could not get the ball to play on the "front foot" or "give it a go" as many love to say. Throwaway lines to some extent. Setting the team up to attack sounds noble ( no pun intended ) but it does not mean we would get the ball and keep it more and in fact as you say we would have likely been undone by their pace.

The squad imbalance and "holes" is the cumulative effect of Sullivan, Gold and Brady's transfer strategy ( non-existent other than using a couple of agents ) , their abdication of all responsibility and due diligence after being dazzled by the big club name of Pellegrini and ever expecting to catapult us from relegation strugglers to top 8 in one transfer window as they immediately started saving wages and limiting transfer spend after one "large for West Ham"" window.

Anyway, we just have to stick with Moyes for a while and give him a few more windows to fix the squad albeit on a budget. A few more like Soucek and Dawson will hopefully see us make the next level which is avoiding relegation struggles "every" season. This season is going well and will probably end in mid to upper table finish which is excellent progression. But its one season and it will take many consecutive seasons in the top half to say that "next level" has actually been reached. Been too many times it has been short lived to be saying we are anywhere near yet.

"What could Moyes do. ?"
Followed by
"He arrived in Manchester without his striker"

He's an idea. He should have brought in a striker during the transfer window that just passed?

We should but that on the honours board 'Man u forced into extra time'

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
What could Moyes do. ? he was not going to throw the Cup.

He arrived in Manchester without his striker. He knows enough about Man U to know that if he plays free open flowing football ..we..could get ripped apart. So he plays defense. And we defended well. He..I believe was looking for West Ham 1-0 victory.

Did the team put in a huge effort. ? Yes we actually lost 3 players to injury ! Did we block stinging shots with bodies ? Absolutely. Did Fab bring off two terrific saves ? Yes.

Were Man U forced into extra time ?

Were Man U forced to bring on their top strikers Cavani and Co

No..Moyes and the Hammers did the best they could to win via a set piece or penalties..

The team only lost 1-0 after extra time...

The players made a supreme effort.

Although very un-west ham, I am enjoying our sturdy defence and giving all for the club spirit we have going on.

Yes the attacking and passing were not up to scratch and hopefully benny and lingard can sort that out against Sheffield Utd but if keep defending like that we are going to pick up some easy points!!!

A so called Man Utd. fan texted me and was gloating about the game last night. I replied that as he was born and brought up in Leatherhead he does not qualify to have an opinion

The first half was very reminiscent of the Liverpool game.

I thought the changes actually made us look a lot better in fairness. Albeit that wasn't difficult.

Yeah, we have got a thin squad. But Moyes sets the team up with a loser mindset whenever we play a so called 'big' club.

Lily Hammer 3:38 Wed Feb 10
Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
First half was good defensively, as we generally expect, these days, but offensively we were awful. Nothing coming off when we fearfully tried. Very much like the recent Liverpool game.

Second half was also good defensively, but much better as far as attacking intent was concerned. From the start we pressed them high, which is risky, but it was working. Man U hardly got out of their half and didn’t have a sniff of a decent attack until the 75th minute. We once again lacked the final balls and decent shots that have been our undoing so many times.

I’m gutted once again. Same old mantra of “maybe next year.”

As long as there are no more injuries to defenders we’ll stick pick up points with clean sheets, but I do worry about scoring. We’re seemingly now in the sad situation of treading water and waiting for next season for any significant improvement.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
Vexed, just highlights the lack in depth, doesn't it?

We have fuck all squad depth, if we had a couple injuries we'd be nowhere near where we are in the league.
