GSP at the time Bilic had a philosophy that what was best for the team comes before any individual player’s preferences.
In the end I think it was Bilic sticking it out to prove a point,I don't know if it was Antonio's pleading with him that got him to change his mind

Antonio was our only threat from open play under Bilic (aside from Payet worldies) and the modus operandi was Payet crossing for him to beat the left back in the air with his head.
He was largely unstoppable (and was more of a threat away from the ball than with it at his feet).
Bilic fucked that up by sticking him at right back.

It was important at the time Picks, because Antonio didn't want to play there and he was getting a lot of stick off the fans because he just didn't know how to defend and it was plain to everybody that he would never have made it as a right back as long as he had a hole up his jacksy

According to reports at the time
Nobody should have been too surprised. Bilic has clearly been irked by the theory that playing Antonio at right-back is folly. It would be more accurate to say that he regards it as a happy accident - one of the triumphs of his first season in Premier League management.
"It wasn't planned for him to play there, but by chance against Liverpool," said Bilic after the win over NK Domzale earlier this month. "I think Joey O'Brien got injured and Sam Byram was cup-tied. Then he played there and he surprised us so we started to talk to him."

Antonio started at RM and scored loads of goals arriving late in the box and unmarked. Bilic nearly ruined him trying to turn him into an attacking RB or whatever.

Shut the fuck up Pickle, Antonio was definitely played mainly on the right by Bilic as I used to love watching bomb down there in the last season at Upton Park towards the Bobby Moore stand. Wished Bilic had introduced him earlier, and then at the new stadium he always seemed miles away on the other side again playing on the right.
