There were plenty of crosses high into their box which I found very strange when no body was there but their goalkeeper

From what I saw on the stream, we did get forward. Coufal was especially lively but, like Cresswell, would tend to release the cross early rather than go deep and get behind their defence. Not much point trying to play a high press if the balls into the box are so easy to deal with. No wonder Antonio lost his rag.

Didn't see anything but the highlights, but didn't they do their best to keep Antonio quiet?

Which should have left more space for our other players to exploit.

Got to disagree with you on this one RM10

Dawson on Saturday was a liability. He's been really good since he arrived and should be allowed some grace, however he was poor.

We looked knackered and gave the ball away too often too cheaply. Benny was not much better than Dawson this week and I can see both being on the bench against Man U on Sunday.

you've completely fucking missed the point if you think it's about league position why people have moaned in the past. it's about attacking intent, about trying to win games - which we showed again saturday despite the final ball being crap on most occasions. nothing at all to do with league position. if he reverts to a negative mindset, which he's displayed against some of the 'dirty six' and in numerous cup games, the moans will return

Alfa I would take anything top ten, as long as we have a decent go in Europe and FA Cup..

RM10 OK Whatever your happy with he sold himself ran past the player giving him a free run on goal.end up in them hitting the postf

Against Palace he dithered on the touchline and got closed down and lost the ball to Benteke the passage of play ended up with the ball in our net.

He keeps making these mistakes I suppose that's why Moyes spent £26 million an a French international who is a massive upgrade and I'd like him in the team.

Dawson was no worse than most of the team, Zouma will be coming in and then you can start on another player…..

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Manuel - you dug him out Saturday you tiresome hypocritical cunt..

You weren't happy he was in the side, he made a mistake that lead to them hitting the post,he also made a mistake that led to the Palace goal..

If he makes mistakes I'll mention it... HTH sorry it upsets you, like most does on here.

If you think he's anything other than a back up and his early form with us wasn't the exception then why the fuck has he struggled at lower clubs his whole career?

He was brilliant for is for a spell as I keep saying, you agree because you wanted a cb as a priority and didn't want him playing.. Fucking comical...

fraser - Your obsession with Dawson is almost now on a par with COYI with Benrahama. It's worth remembering that next time you dig him out. Now off you go and deny it. Yawn.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I think what we saw Saturday is something they term as being "victims of our own success" ? Teams like Southampton would normally come up against a struggling West Ham team in past seasons or at least one that was in the relegation mix etc. They would feel they can attack and get at us which since Moyes has returned and remodelled the team suits us. We like to counter and get a lot of goals that way. Set pieces too especially last season were getting us a lot of goals.

Southampton changed their system specifically to cope with this and were prepared to sit back and let us have it. Wolves have struggled with that transition as they too were a team that had success on the counter etc. and arguably it saw Nuno's reign come to an end.

We have, for a while, struggled with teams that sit deep, 10 behind the ball and essentially do what we try to do against the better teams ( rich 4 mostly).

What Moyes and team have now got to do and others have mentioned is come up with a way to open teams up that dig in. The proverbial "Plan B" I suppose? You tend to need pace and / or very good passers of the ball to move teams around and create gaps. Not sure we have enough of that yet so we are kind of in "Second Season Syndrome" territory as teams will take a different approach now and it may mean us struggling to repeat the feats of last season and especially when you factor in European competition, games on Thursday.

Can see some anti-Moyes types re-emerging from the rocks they have been hiding under for the last 12 months if we are mid-table by end of the year which is a distinct possibility. We shall see soon enough though. This week will show how West Ham's squad deal with 2 tough games in 4 days.

RM10

I'll take the odd mistake over mistakes every game. Dawson had a brilliant spell for us but that was the exception in his career. He's now back to the player he was which was bought as a back up centre back.

Zouma is a regular French international who has played at the highest level.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Let’s hope £26m Zouma don’t make a mistake or a have a below par game eh!

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Typical game after international breaks, we're unbeaten in 14 league games, unbeaten this season and we kept a clean sheet.

You can dig into the details , but in reality the above is really what matters.

Move onto the next.

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Only by a whisker.. Dawson sold him self like a cheap whore letting them run in on goal.
