tWhat about the great escape in 2007 away to Blackburn Tevez was standing on the goal line when Zamora's shot hit him the bounced back out and the ref gave a goal when it clearly wasn't over the line.

Imo it was clearly offside I’m not even sure he didn’t touch it but also imo it was a stone wall pen Vlasic turns the centrehalf and is 12 yards out with the keeper rooted when the defender grabs is left arm puts his other arm round his waist and drags him back so he doesn’t get a clear shot off and from my understanding he’d of got a red as well thought both were terrible decisions but after what’s gone on in the last few weeks nothing would surprise me

No surprise to see Northern Spurs upset by a perfectly legit West Ham goal.

Alex Song had one disallowed at Upton Park, I think it was Sakho it went past, along with 15 other players all between Song and the keeper.

The ref did well to come up with something so he could disallow it. Needless to say, the gooners won the game eventually. Well, they would do if it doesn't count when we score.

Anyone remember that goal at all Newcastle that Scotty Parker literally had to jump out of the way as it was shot and the ref allowed it?

If that's not impeding I don't understand what it was? In the 18 yard box right in front of Rob Green and literally had to jump so the ball didn't hit him.

Of course this is from the days when VAR didn't exist but fuck me, evening it up has been a long time coming.

Just fucking enjoy it. Remember this is how we spend our time off work, nobody forces us to do it. Some of you are giving credit to DIRTY Leeds which I find astonishing considering the tear ups we've had with them for years and years.

Fuck 'em.

Interesting article in the Yorkshire Post explaining why the goal was correctly allowed to stand. Amazing how many people couldn't follow what happened and apply the rules.

It doesn't for the 'line decision' element. But this was fuck all to do with that.

That ball from Fornals to release Antonio for the second is sublime. Great vision and weight on the pass. Antonios pass wasn't so great but Bowen adjusted really well and hit it early so the keeper couldn't get set. Really good counter attack. The game should have been put to bed earlier as I thought we were dominant in this match.

I've been surprised none of the media have mentioned Vlasic being pulled down by the defender. It was a penalty all day long had we not scored and possibly a red card. Vlasic has turned him and was in. Clear contact, nowhere near the ball and not a dive as he even makes the extra attempt to toe poke it.

He did take dives a couple of other times which I don't like to see but he was really good in this match and seemed to have more confidence to try and beat a man. Just need him to pull the trigger a bit more when he gets good sight of goal.

Clear and obvious doesn’t come into offside decisions does it?

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Leeds - Official Match Thread - 3rd Round FA Cup FT 2-0
That's definitely what I'm coming round to thinking as well on further watching. More and more that it was actually a very good subjective decision from the man in the booth. It does appear that Bowen being here was of no consequence. Toss up as to what another official would make of it on another day.

However I'd still be moaning like a bitch about it if we were in Leeds' position! Just human nature I guess.

At least no question whatsoever about the second goal which was absolutely superb. Bowen must have run 80 yards to get into position for that.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Leeds - Official Match Thread - 3rd Round FA Cup FT 2-0
It definitely could have gone either way.

But VAR was used correctly as it was never clear and obvious that Bowen being there had any effect on the consequent action.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Leeds - Official Match Thread - 3rd Round FA Cup FT 2-0
When looking at it again, I can only think the VAR official must have adjudged that the tangle up between the keeper and Vlasic would have happened anyway and the ball would have ricocheted(?) to Lanzini regardless, whether Bowen, who didn't touch the ball) was there or not. That's probably a fair call, but on another day or against another team it could easily have gone the other way.
Can you imagine it being given against Liverpool or Man U? No- me either.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Leeds - Official Match Thread - 3rd Round FA Cup FT 2-0
Irrespective of if it was offside or not, it was also clearly a blatant penalty for the grappling by their young defender on Vlasic.

I seem to have got myself into the position of defending the shit-fest that is VAR - which I would happily see binned off forever.

So, rightly or wrongly, this one went our way. Fuck 'em.

Good spot Razzle, thanks, my ignorance is now somewhat less.

The first one still applies, though. None of the replays confirm that the tackling defender didn't get a touch.

A goalkeepers save does not put players who are in an offside position onside. (IFAB page 100 Law 11)

Yes, the ruling is 'INFLUENCING PLAY'.
Obviously not touching the ball is one factor in ruling that out and have seen cases when players have moved towards the ball & been ok.
Am sure at one point the guidance was playing or ATTEMPTING to play the ball.
Players in front or near the keeper are always a grey area too.

Sven my dear plastic Australian friend..... lets be 100% honest here... if that goal was given against us you'd still be gnashing and moaning... and rightly so... we got away with one... no big deal... it happens... next??
