If Rashford hadn't been there the goal wouldn't have been scored

fifth - Yep. the lino was correct initially, had the ref gone with that I don't think too many would have disagreed, after the initial uproar from Manu fans and players.
But it is a grey area for sure and yes is subjective. It's not the worst call I've ever seen.

It is indeed subjective what is "Interfering" but this is mad that he didn't deem Rashford to be interfering.

Rules change but there is still scope for interpretation and discretion. This is why even with VAR the refs always (ALWAYS) favour Man Utd. Sack all the refs and bring in the best from all around the world,; the whole thing stinks.

The thing with this is there is no specific guideline that dictates how close, or far, the played deemed to be not interfering with play is, as long as he doesn't touch the ball, so therefore it just becomes subjective and down to the ref on the day. Granted, the player usually deemed to be not interfering is when they are out near the flanks, if the play comes through the middle, so yea you have to say Rashford was interfering being that close. But technically the ref didn't get it wrong as such, as there is no definite guideline to what is and what isn't interfering in terms of distance.

When the ball is played through Ederson is significantly closer to where Fernandes gets the ball than Ferdandes is. What stops him coming out is Rashford being in possession of the ball.
Rashford's presence clearly affects the decision making made by Man City who have played on as they should do assuming that Rashford was onside.

Oh those were the days, when offside was offside irrespective where you were, you was always ‘interfering’ with play.
Really?
Wish Clive Thomas agreed with you, in the 1981 League Cup Final

Speaking as a referee we are taught that as soon as a player turns and moves towards the ball he is offside.

Green Street, as Bill Shankly famously said, if you're not interfering with play then what the fuck are you doing on the pitch?
He probably never swore though.

If the question asked was, “Has the attacking team gained an obvious advantage from their player being in an offside position, then the answer would be a resounding yes. Same with Salah last week. This should be the yardstick.

The game was so much simpler then, so many fucking rules nowadays it’s no wonder even with VAR with it’s human input there’s now more controversy than ever before.

It did "go to VAR". Everything does. However VAR chose not to intervene.
It's a bonkers decision though

We wouldn't have had two players that close to the goal at the same time.

Would the ref have given it if it was West Ham scoring the goal at all Trafford is all you need to ask

Definitely shouldn't have been allowed, the linesman ruled it out but the ref overruled him.
Rashford blocked site and path of defenders, he could have struck the ball at anytime and of course their defence attention and keeper's were on him.. Impossible to disregard him..

If it had gone to VAR it probably would have been given offside, but the ref only saw it live and would have been following the ball and not taken in the exact positioning, etc, of the keeper. He was probably influenced by the baying home crowd too. All said and done I had no problem with it standing.

Agreed, he was also blocking the path of the defender to get to the ball.
