HS2 may not run through to central London - report

They are making it up as they go along

Its not surprising as ground was broken too early just to push to the project through

Crossrail on steroids

Money gets tight. The shit gets real.

Classic case of British politician kicking the can down the road when it comes too infrastructure in this country.

Talking to my self again

HS2 have instructed the contractors on section 2a (connection between the East and West midlands) to stop work for 2 (Two )years. Old oak common to Birmingham is the section to be focused on . Predicted finish 2035 to 2040 I would put another 5 years on that

HS2 are getting to the stage (Which I have seen many times) of doing something for the sake of it like awarding the contracts for trains fit out and and station fit outs Gathering dust for decades

I spoke with 2 people who worked on cross rail many of the materials or components that were bought prior to work starting were obsolete by the time it came to installation

Euston all work stopped and workers laid off

Section 2a tunnelling is scheduled to start in roughly a years time and will take about 10 weeks and then cross passages, cable runs, walkways , track, signalling OCS pole (Overhead catenary system) and LOADs more

Still on lower rate mate

£600 a day is not massive for top staff

I've been parachuted into similar projects - some, like this one, it seems, are irredeemable.

I've always felt that this little baby was set up as the proverbial sacrificial lamb - there was never any intention to actually complete this as all (ALL) political parties hate, for their own reasons, the railways in the UK (and this time you really can blame Thatcher...and Beeching...and Bevin).

Short of cash? Pare back HS2.

Still Short of cash? Downgrade/delay HS2

STILL short of cash? Redefine the HS2 deliverables.

As someone else mentioned earlier, it will end up as a low speed alternative N/S freight-only route with links to the still under review Varsity line in the south and a big, fuck-off freight marshalling yard at Crewe.

Its looking like the can is being kicked down the road for an independent review to question and rewrite the intended benefits and design criteria for the program

The 2A Birmingham interchange area contractors are recruiting again filling the ranks in order to submit a notice of delay claim to HS2

I have worked on a shit project which is years late and well over budget but its not even 10% of the size and cost that HS2 is going to be

Talking to myself again

£600 a day = six figure salary.

Well, when I say "six figure salary", I mean that the figure six is mentioned...

Bloke can’t be in signaling if he is only on £600 a day

Any contactors currently holding a contract with HS2 to be working in any areas being delayed will be entitled to payment for staff , plant and equipment from HS2 for the delay period

Keeping down the total cost is absolutely not what they are doing. It is keeping down the yearly spend.
I used to work for the Procurement Executive in the MoD and we had to do that sort of thing every year on projects. It invariably puts the total cost up by dint of inflation alone before you get to things like economy of scale and disrupting the schedule.

It'll all get pushed back now until after the GE...

They are saying they are delaying it to help get the costs down? Surely going forwards the costs will increase? It's defo looking like a tactic to take something contentious off the table elading up to 2024...

One of the JV civils contractors for HS2 doing all the interchange work around Birmingham stopped recruiting about 2 weeks so I reckon there will be more "Amendments" to the scope of the project and the completion dates
