Leicester City and West Ham keen on player currently on loan at Middlesbrough – Boro potentially keen on permanent swoop

Leicester City and West Ham are both keen on Middlesbrough loanee Ryan Giles, according to reports, with Boro seemingly keen on signing the Wolves man in the summer as well.

Giles has shone on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship this season. The 23-year-old wide player has featured in all 35 of Boro’s Championship fixtures so far this season, assisting nine and proving to be a really key player for Michael Carrick’s side.

Carrick discussed the possibility of signing Giles permanently earlier in the week and the ex-West Ham midfielder refused to rule out the possibility, after previous reports had suggested that Wolves were open to selling Giles in the summer, providing that they aren’t relegated from the Premier League.

Now though, an emerging report from Daily Mirror’s print edition (09.03.23, pg. 65 via FLW) says that Premier League duo Leicester City and West Ham are both interested in Giles ahead of the summer transfer window. Giles’ Middlesbrough currently sit in 3rd place of the Championship and seven points behind Sheffield United in 2nd.

Hot property…

Giles has impressed with Middlesbrough this season. It always seemed likely that Boro would be linked with a permanent swoop, but few would’ve expected to see the likes of Wet Ham and Leicester linked.

Whilst Giles is a real talent, he’s unproven at Premier League level. He’s still progressing as a player and if he continues his form into the summer, Wolves might yet fancy him for their own squad going into the next season.

And West Ham and Leicester’s presence in this transfer chase could bump up the price, which could potentially be a blow for Boro.

It remains to be seen what the summer has in store for Giles, but he’s certainly a key player for Middlesbrough, who return to action v Swansea City this weekend.

Full West Ham squad available for Europa Conference League fixture against AEK Larnaca

West Ham United will hope to record a ninth straight victory in the Europa Conference League this season when they take on Cypriot side AEK Larnaca at the AEK Arena on Thursday evening (5:45pm kick-off)

By Jonty Colman West Ham United FC writer

West Ham United manager David Moyes will welcome back three players to his squad when the Hammers take on AEK Larnaca at the AEK Arena on Thursday night.

The Hammers are in action in Cyprus for the first of two legs against Larnaca in the round of 16 of the Europa Conference League, playing host to the Cypriot side a week later.

Ahead of the game, manager Moyes has confirmed that three players will be back in the squad having missed last Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Striker Michail Antonio and defender Thilo Kehrer both missed the trip to Sussex with a hamstring injury and illness respectively. However, Moyes told football.london on Wednesday that both have travelled to Cyprus.

There is a also a return to the squad for winger Maxwel Cornet, who has missed the club’s last 25 first-team matches in all competitions with a calf injury. However, Moyes has said it is unlikely that he will play.

Centre-back Angelo Ogbonna is also in the squad despite going off injured with concerns over a knee issue at Brighton five days ago.

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski will not be involved for the trip to Sussex after undergoing an eye operation last week following a fractured eye-socket and cheekbone injury sustained in the win over Nottingham Forest last month. Right-back Vladimir Coufal will also miss the game with a heel injury.

With only a maximum of 21 senior players available, West Ham will either not fill their bench, or, include some academy players in their travelling squad.

Here is a look at who could feature for the Hammers against the Guardians.

West Ham ‘in line’ for signing – Club open to ‘important sale’ in summer, set price

West Ham United are among the clubs in the mix to sign AS Roma’s Roger Ibañez in the summer.

The centre-back has made 33 starts this season and has been a vital figure for the Serie A side. His displays have helped him make it to the Brazil squad for March’s international break and also attracted attention from the Premier League.

That’s according to Forza Roma, who state West Ham ‘would be in line’ to secure the 24-year-old’s services. That’s all the report has to say about the Hammers.
The defender recently met his agent and there’s the indication that was to talk his future, considering the ‘price is set’ by José Mourinho’s side to carry out his sale after this season.

Although he has a €80m release clause, Roma want €35-40m, which is what they asked for last summer. Ibañez’s exit would be an ‘important sale’ for the club to build a new team and also from the Financial Fair Play point of view.

Time will tell whether West Ham would be willing to meet the demands set by Roma to sign the South American.
