Golf Club Advice
|
I can't be bothered to sign up to a golf forum and don't really know anyone any good at golf so just wondered if anyone is any good and can give me a bit of advice.
To give a view of my standard (not very good), I started playing again this year and for the first time ever I'm playing regularly and enjoying it. My plan was to break 100 and done it twice now comfortably with 92 and 94 but still creeping over 100 on most rounds.
Looking at my clubs, I've got a Driver, 5 wood, 4-P and then a 56 SW (is that right loft for SW).
My question is I feel like I need maybe a club or two more as loft from Driver to 5 wood is 10.5 to 20 and from P to SW is 45 to 56.
Should I be looking at a 3 wood around 15d and a UW around 50 to fill those gaps? If so which is more important?
Or am I overthinking it?

Played with the 52 this weekend and really please with it.
Nice little club for 70-80 yards from the green without having to either pelt the 56 or control the PW.
I think it will become a usefull addition.
Still debating about the 3W as the 5W and 4Hybrid are still inconsistant for me but when I'm hitting them well they do the job.
Went from a dissapointing 104 on Friday to 91 on Saturday!
I've decided also to spend a bit more time on my local course (Notley Golf Club) as I am learning to play it well and I think I can I've got a sub 90 in me on it.
It's only £15 a round after 3pm if you pre-book and conditions are decent enough for my standard.

Yeah i played Ingrebourne last year. Great front 9 but felt like they hadn't finished/ran out of money a bit on the back nine. My old man is a member at Upminster so i play over there sometimes and have a couple of mates at Thorndon Park which is a really nice track. I try and play once a week in the summer and get a few trips to portugal in each year. Cost of golf is crazy over there now - Quinta do Lago courses are knocking on the door of £200 a round once you get a buggy

Aldgate, Toot Hill always good value can get a little busy at times though, have you played ingrebourne at all ? Bit more expensive but well worth it and on a Saturday afternoon it's nice and quiet.

Played Toot Hill today for only £30. That was great value - course in decent nick and greens superb for a pitch up and play course

Aldgate, cheers for replying, yep have played prince's myself and was very impressed it's a proper test especially when the winds up. Would definitely visit again though.

We played Royal Cinque Ports just down the road as well a couple of days after the Open qualifiers. That was pretty brutal. Starter just said if you go in the rough don't bother looking. I lost a lot of balls

aldgate, I played Princes back in the 90s. it was a great experience, beautiful condition and very tight. sadly, I didn't myself justice and missed far too many fairways

Eastside - it's in really good nick over there and a challenging layout. I'd say it's worth it for a special day out - clubhouse food/drinks are pretty reasonable. They also own Princes which is a great venue for a two round/overnight stay and they do some good deals out of high season.

Here, have this lightly baited, but obvious, hook.
You do know that they play golf in Cambodia, don't you?
You should as you're the self-appointed site guru on all things Khmer.

Aldgate 4.26 I got an email through the other day about playing chart hills but when I looked it was £130 a round which is a bit out of my price range. Is it worth that price in your opinion mate?

So the reference is actually to the under-aged Cambodian cripple you claim you fucked in an attempt to ingratiate yourself with the Night Crew?
Got it. Thanks for clearing that up.

Alf Ghandi?
I understand he lived in Northern Thailand, Chang Mai/Chang Rai.
What's the connection with Cambodia, a nation with which you seem truly obsessed?

Played Chart Hills yesterday and managed 35 points off my handicap of 16 thanks to the course being pretty long so i used my hybrid a lot off the fairways which i can hit around 200 yards. I got the speed of the greens pretty early which helps and i've started doing more bump and runs around the green rather than flashy splash shots. Not really got the time to practice/play enough to get significantly better but I can have a crack at most courses which will do for me

I have bought a Ping 52 wedge just because I felt when playing it's the club I feel I'm missing most.
I'll still look into the 3 wood too but I think I want to have some lessons first as I feel like I'm getting to and on the green ok at the moment from long range.
Got a round booked at Dunston Hall in Norwich on Friday so will see how that goes but might play saturday too at a cheap and cheerful course nearby.

Golf is an easy game... its just hard to play. There are three ways to improve your golf game: take lessons, practice constantly... or start cheating.

If you need lessons I can recommend John Moncur's younger brother Nick. He has lots of entertaining stories about John too.

Plenty of golf clubs in Cambodia, I'm told, but some are a leg short.
