Sullivan

Splashing the cash again and showing intent. Can’t say he hasn’t put his money where his mouth is when it comes to buying players.
I read this article regarding Sullivan and Golds tenure at Birmingham City, he managed to help steer that club into the Prem under Steve Bruce in 2002. Now they sit in Division one playing the likes of Orient.
Reading the article the Birmingham city fans were as cynical and critical as West Ham fans, with similar complaints.
I wonder if they’d take him back considering how far they have fallen since his departure.
Anyway here it is, https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=birmingham%20city%20when%20David%20sullivan%20owned%20them&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5
Love him or hate him he seems to know how to run a club.

I'd be inclined to thank Kretinsky over Sullivan as it seems a better infrastructure is in place since he's been here to protect his investment.....

There's a big difference in saying that he's not doing a too bad a job of running the club than having one's tongue up his arsehole, Riddle.
There has been a difference in how the club is run in the last year or two, and it's in good financial health. You have to give the board credit for that.
I just hope it's not another false dawn.

It's true that the net spend hasn't been that high, but it doesn't have to be, that shouldn't be the only barometer in which to judge a window, you can buy smart as well.

Transfer thread says In £115.4m including AWB Out £40.8m
Total spend £74.6m
You need to remove your tongue from Sullivans arsehole, he hasn't even spent the £105m Rice money yet?
Todibo is a loan, that will come out of next years 2025 accounts transfer budget. £27m received for Scamacca will cover most of that.
There will also be a fire sale of Moyes has beens in due course to recoup a good chunk of that.

Humm, have to say, if Julen and Tim get it right this season we may have to accept we're firmly at the next level and the team is doing well. But Texas is right, with the increasing value of the club he is making an absolute fortune. Considering that, the concessions nonsense is a real kick in the nuts for the support. How old is he? I think I will not be the only one that won't be too upset when he passes away.

Right on cue - a moron to serve up the ‘he saved the club’ nonsense.
York - odd that you need such a simple concept explained to you.

Sullivan is not spending his own money, not that he ever wanted to, as owners cant now due to FFP and sustainability rules. That's why Newcastle and Villa owners are complaining at the moment as their owners are much richer than ours. However, you can only spend your revenue on players and wages, unless you are Man City of course, and our revenues are greater than Newcastle and Villa's AT THE MOMENT..If the rules change we will be looking a the big 8 not the big 6.

So if it’s the board and not Sullivan who gets the credit for putting the board together?

They made a huge thing of promoting Birmingham City to the top tier, as if it was Aldershot they'd managed to do it with, rather than a club who'd traditionally spent many years in the top tier during their history.
They left when they realised they weren't going to get a deal which would've involved BCFC becoming home to one of the super-casinos which were being touted at the time.
yeah, they did get them promoted. They also got them relegated twice.

Re: Sullivan

Odd to claim he's not spending his own money. As he owns nearly 40% of the club, surely 40% of the spend is his money by definition.

Re: Sullivan

He didn't literally say he wanted us out of the league cup. He was just saying on Talksport about there being no profit in the competition during the covid lockdown.
“The win is marvellous, but in fact, it’s probably cost us about £50,000 because we have to fly to Fleetwood or Everton next week. The away games, unfortunately, we’ve got a £50,000 cost next week.”
Of course, moaning about 50 grand is embarrassing and makes him look like a real small time charlie, but he never said he wanted us out of the cup.

Steidten was almost certainly hired and Moyes forced out at Kretensky’s behest. The club’s firm support of Paqueta in the face of the FA harassment campaign is another sign the club is being managed better. At least Sullivan is going along with it, though I’ve yet to see him stand together with Steidten and say what a diamond geezer he is in public.

You're right Manuel. It does work both ways. And I've always disagreed with those who complain about lack of spending on Sullivan's part.
The real issue is with how the club's money has been spent though: some awful transfers, many chosen by Sully himself; lack of investment in the youth setup and training facilities; no coherent long term strategy for team management - necessitating a costly overhaul of players to suit the new manager's style, etc.

Re: Sullivan

To be fair, Sullivan has also been accused a lot of not spending money and trying to scrimp and save, even to the point where he wants out of the league cup to save on travel :-) So it has to work both ways, as he won't be saving his own money, will he.
It can be talked about all day, but generally I've never minded Sullivan as the owner, and most other clubs fans seem to dislike their owner/s. The obvious gripe is the stadium move, but in fairness that may turn out to have been the right thing to do years from now, if not sooner.

Re: Sullivan

As already pointed out, it's not his money. Money he previously put into the club was mostly in the form of exorbitant loans.
In terms of running the club, perhaps it's no coincidence that we look much better run since Kretinsky came in and Steidten was hired.
