generally life insurance doesnt payout if the holder commits suicide i the first 12 months of the policy, most will payout after that though.

This is complete bullshit on her part. The problem is that we will never know now, only she can answer that.
We all know that she probably threw something massive at him, maybe divorce or other man but she will never come clean on that one.
The same thing happened to a bloke I used to work with. Lovely fella, really lovely fella and really the LAST person you think would top himself. Got up one morning and threw himself in front of a train at Harold Wood station.
We all sort of knew that his wife was a nightmare but we can only guess at what she said to him the night before. The problem is that only she knows what.
By the way, she had a new bloke within 4 months and they both jacked in work because of the life insurance and employer payout.

Coroners try to avoid a suicide verdict at all costs - to avoid upsetting the family. The suicidal text threat, the row with his wife, the ligature around the neck - a narrative verdict was the easy option.
