Paolo Di Canio vs Carlos Tevez

Given that there seems to be a West Ham love-in with Carlos Tevez it prompted me to think of other players of the last few years that are reverred in the same light.

So given the choice, which would you rather have at their peak. Paolo Di Canio or Carlos Tevez

Di Canio for me. Technically a genius of a player, could create something out of nothing, do the unexpected and score outrageous goals.

I loved Tevez's attitude when he helped us stay up.

Never thought he'd turn into a Bertie Big Bollocks.

Di Canio the better player for me.

I still can't get over how West Ham managed to get the two Argies in the first place and then in the same breath allow the fuckwit manager not to play them. Mascherano Vs Reocoker or Mullins, difficult one that was for everyone apart from the bloke we had in charge. Tevez apparently wasnt as good as Zamora, unbelievable. Only West Ham could get two world class internationals and then fuck it so right royally up

For what we have seen as West Ham supporters Di Canio.
Then if you want to judge the player for what has achieved individually it's a no contest, Tevez has won much more than Di Canio and his career as a player is not yet over.
But it is also true that the level of football during Paolo Di Canio footballing days was far much higher than the one we are seeing now.

I think its a given that most West Ham fans would take Di Canio in terms of his contribution for us.

But are there actually people suggesting that Di Canio was a better footballer than Tevez? Blimey.

If you think Tevez (as much as I love him) is anywhere near as good as Messi & Ronaldo - again - you must be smoking crack.

Those two are up there as two of the best players EVER - not of their generation.

Whilst he is great - not fit to lace Messi or Ronaldo's boots.

Paolo Di Canio is probably the only true legend to have played in claret and blue since Julian Dicks. So in a lot of peoples minds (including mine) he will always be considered one of the very best foreign players ever to have played in England and certainly one of the best players we will ever see at West Ham.

However on a player vs player judgement Carlos Tevez is most likely to be the best player any of us will ever see play for West Ham. Di Canio was one of the best players in the league, Tevez is one of the best players in the world. With a different attitude, different priorities and a different agent he could genuinly have been the player of his generation, the ability to match the achievments and skills of Messi and Ronaldo.

In all my years of going Tevez acheived something that I always thought of as impossible, after the Bolton home game in the great escape I had the pleasure of hearing an old boy say that he has finally seen a player in the West Ham shirt that could be better than Trevor Brooking. This wasn't a fair weather fan, this was a guy who goes home and away week in week out and has done for decades. I will always feel privilidged to have seen a player of Carlos Tevez calibre play in a West Ham shirt.

well said Charlie in total agreement both were outstanding however Tevez the more skilful me thinks. Mercenary or not the guy is world class did not here to many fans complaining when he doen the business for us.

Both a pain in the arse, both magical, both game changers, both unpredictable personalities, both passionate.

Wasn't Ferguson after Di Canio, even though our fiery Italian was in his 30s? Definitely world class, but Carlos Tevez is a better player.

People defend Di Canio saying he played for four huge Italian sides, but what wasn't mentioned is his minimal impact at those same clubs. What also seems to have been forgotten is his lack of enthusiasm while here for away games. Tevez although an absolute looser has a distinguished career playing for arguably the biggest club in the world with great success. Also his ill faited move across Manchester has seen his foundations deliver an FA Cup and Champions League football.

We all prefer Di Canio because of his passion, love and our memories of him at West Ham, but on a player v player basis Tevez fairly easily.

Teves is a complete and utter cunt ! I live in Manchester and I was at the airport the night the Munichs came back from Japan with the world club cup, I was really tempted to go over to Teves and thank him for all he'd done for us. Then he moves across the town and creates mayhem, all good fun,But, I have a lot lot of mates who made the trip to Munich, time off work, money etc etc and the little cunt sat on his arse !!!!

Glad I didn't shake his hand......
