Nikica Jelavic
WEST HAM have made a £6million bid for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic.

Boss Sam Allardyce made his move after finally conceding defeat in his pursuit of Huddersfield hotshot Jordan Rhodes.

Big Sam is desperate for more firepower to boost his team's promotion push.

Hammers are offering £5m now plus £1m tied to appearances — and the club getting back into the top flight.

Croatian Jelavic, 26, has scored 17 goals for Rangers this season and is also linked with moves to QPR and West Brom.

Allardyce has been forced to scrap plans to lure Scotsman Rhodes from Huddersfield after being told the player is not for sale at the moment for any price.

There's a difference between getting it wrong and talking out of your arse.

I think most people who get something wrong will happily admit it.

We've already seen a few people come back and admit that they genuinely didn't/don't rate him, or that even in hindsight the financial risk was too high.

The one's you'll never hear from again are the ones who came up with all that 'he's not good enough, he's shit' bollocks, even though they'd never heard of him. Let alone watched him play.

And as someone else mentioned, there probably is a similar Yakubu thread somewhere, with the usual suspects saying that he's past it blah blah blah. Not even good enough for Leicester blah blah blah. We should be trying to sign Messi blah blah blah.

That's affectionately know as 'a fordstar'

Re: Nikica Jelavic
More often than not judging how good players are going to be when they move clubs, especially when they go to play in a higher league, is about 80% luck, there are so many factors to consider, nobody really knows and an armchair fan can get it right whilst someone who's played at the top level and is in management could get it horribly wrong. As often happens.

When people happen to get it right on here they gloat, when they get it wrong they never mention it ever again and try to forget or deny it ever happened.

Forrest and Rhodes are the double act that I would be going for

Re: Nikica Jelavic
That or our bid for Jelavic wasn't good enough and he was far more interested in joining a Premier league club.

TOM Celik has gone back to Sweden hasn't he, HEW?

Re: Nikica Jelavic
Jelavic and Celik may both have joined us if not for our unwritten refusal to pay an a certain group of agents the moneys that they wanted

Re: Nikica Jelavic
I didn't want us to spend over the odds on a player I don't rate, enough to improve long term.

He has done fantastic so far, but Harewood scrored 14 in the Premier once and he was poor.

Grant Holt scored 15 this season, and I'd still not want him either.

I still may be wrong long term with Jelavic though, but I just don't like him.

Some bright spark, only a week or so ago, said that Jelavic wouldn't shift Cole as our main forward.

You have to smile.

Sitting watching MOTD and thought I'd try and find this little gem of a thread. Classic WHO!

Really defines 3 types of WHOers:
1. Those who didn't know much about him but were honest enough to say so.
2. Those who had seen him play and know enough about the game to see that he's a decent player.
3. Those who hadn't seen him play, but still felt sufficiently qualified to come up with the usual "not good enough, never will be. We should be going for someone else" bollocks.

Love it!

The moral of this story is don't doubt a player who you've never watched, or because of what league they play in.

Re: Nikica Jelavic
Jelavic would have continued the trend of 90% of Scottish footballers disappointing in the last 20 years as the standard declined from top Championship to League one or two.

Remember Gary Locke, Stephen Glass or Chris Boyd who I understand is now working as a beer-taster in America...

Huddersfield
Watford
Barnsley
and whoever else we had talks with were also desperate.
