Couple of character over at West Ham used to be spitting images of Alf… one bloke I always used to see at away games in the late 80’s and early 90’s….?? Also anyone from Bas’ will remember Bill Cambridge (RIP)… proper look-a-likey

Classic episode one of when his TV breaks down…. they get a TV engineer in and it’s a black man… as you can imagine Alf is right on his case as he thinks he has not got the savvy to mend the tv as he has just come out the jungle etc…. well after some banter the black TV repairman turns on the TV and to Alf’s astonishment it works…. “’Ow did you bleedin’ do that”?? to which the TV repairman replies in his best put on African voice…. “BLACK MAGIC MAAAAAAN”!!

Didn’t Alf once parade around Upton Park with a big placard with `I’m supporting the Ruddy ‘Pool’ on it??

Pure class. Comedy is dead with all the political correctness of today.

The man is and always remains a legend.

He is still around though the last I heard of him was a few years ago he was one of the local residents complaining about the noise from the concerts & rehearsals for the Kenwood Concerts on Hampstead Heath.
They managed to get it cancelled for one year & it has come back smaller & I think moved a bit.

My dad bumped into him in at a Petrol Station in Gravesend once and the owner said "Ere, you're Alf Garnett aintcha?" to which Mr Mitchell replied in the poshest voice "Not tonight, I am not". He was dressed in black tie clobber and obviously off to some posh do! My dad cracked up. I also remember him as Alf Garnett on the pitch over UP once before a game asking the North Bank to sing COYI on his count of three. In the old microphone he goes "One, Two, Three" and the North Bank to a man replied "F**k off Tottehnam, F**k off Tottenham". Well funny and he took it well. Great actor and top bloke despite being Spurs!

Great actor, lovely man. I grew up with the original series and I remember him doing a skit on the side of the Wembley pitch before the West Ham - Fulham final. In the days that the FA cup final would last all day, even having an 'It's a Knock out' episode between the fans.

I was gutted when a couple of years later I found out he was Tottenham in real life.

Anyway Joe I'd love to hit Camden with you but I'm going to have to wait for a while as I'm sick as fuck and getting over an operation I had last week. I can't drink either which is a right fucking pain. If I'm feeling this grim tomorrow I'll miss the game too which will piss me right off as I'm clucking for this game.

Life's a bit of a cunt at the moment. I'd laugh about it if the strain didn't make me shit myself!

I haven't been in the Electric ballroom for years.

Last time I was in Full tilt I was off my nut and saw a girl I used to go out with. 'Lucy! Hello babe, how are you?' as I was happy to see her.

'How am I? 'HOW AM I'? Last time I saw you you said you were just off to the toilet. 'THAT WAS FOUR FUCKING YEARS AGO. WELL YOU CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF BECAUSE I'M ENGAGED AND I'M GOING TO GET FUCKING MARRIED YOU CUNT'.

I loved that girl- probably the most beautiful woman I ever went out with. She came it the vamp with her strict black bob and red leather dress but waking up in her peach fucking bedroom surrounded by fluffy toys and Capital radio blaring away at 6.30 in the morning while she was getting ready for work? Not for me.

That had me laughing out loud for about five minutes. My missus came storming in to tell me to shut up as she was in bed!

'Poking me? Don't you bloody poke ME'

'I'm not poking you- I'm leaving a gap'.

Bollocks, I'm laughing just typing that. I'm in trouble now!

I have respect for Warren Mitchell despite him being a Spurs supporter. When he got the part he had a choice between supporting West Ham or Millwall and he chose us because he couldnt bring himself to play a Millwall supporter.

Amazing. Just watched the pigeon carrier one with Bill Maynard and the Bournemouth one. My 8 year old laughed a lot but not when he mentioned the coons

Re: Alf Garnett and West Ham
Pseudo -- We all know Warren Mitchell supports Spurs. His acting was so good in the part that the tv viewers( West Ham and Tottenham apart) were probably convinced of his affiliation for West Ham. The writer of the series, johnny Speight ,of course was a Hammers fanatic, born in Canning Town.
