Top of my list for 2012 is The Master, newest film by PT Anderson (There will be blood, magnolia, boogie nights). Stars Philip Seymour Hoffmann as the leader of a Scientology like cult.

The legendary Terrence Malick also has 1 or maybe 2 new films out, but can fully expect them to be put back as he takes an eternity in post production.

Also Ridley Scott's Prometheus, his Alien sequel.

Dark Knight Rises even though I was disappointed by TDK.

The Hobbit

Wes Anderson has a new film out

And Tarantino's Django Unchained, a spaghetti western, is out in Dec 2012

I took my kids to see The Woman in Black on Hallowe'en night at the theatre a few years ago. Cracking night out.

stirlinghammer,

I went to see The Woman In Black last night and have to disagree with you. I thought it was eerie, dark and genuinely scary. Flesh pricklingly good!

I see a couple of cuts were made to ensure it got a 12a rating for British audiences and, whilst this may be a cynical ploy to maximise revenue, I was quite delighted to imagine loads of 12 year-old Harry Potter/Daniel Radcliffe fans absolutely shitting themselves!

I've seen The Woman In Black at The Fortune Theatre a couple of times and the film still made me jump even though I knew what was coming.

I've not seen Naked Lunch yet, have it on my laptop though. Does look nuts.

Crash was good too, messed up but good fun! James Spader is perfect for that type of film- like in Secretary.

I liked 'Crash'.

Christ. Comic Book character films, vampire films/tv serials and now 2 Snow White films. We are infantilised.

No mention of Naked Lunch, Blunders? Probably my favourite Cronenberg film... perhaps not his best but I'm a fan of Burroughs too, so it was the ideal film for me.

Re: New Films Thread
Nurse,

Now that's not fair. You've fallen into the lazy misconception of Scorsese ;)
Over his career of some 30 odd films, Scorsese has only made a handful of gangster films (Mean Streets, Goodfellas, The Departed, Casino).

Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy, Bringing Out the Dead, The Age of Innocence, The Aviator, The Last Temptation of Christ, Shutter Island, Hugo, The Last Waltz, Shine a Light, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, After Hours, Kundun etc.

No gangsters to be found in these!

I nearly shed a tear at the clips of the old films part. Really dislike Cohen though but didn't ruin it for me.

Re: New Films Thread

Its 'The Descendants'. But no haven't seen it.

joey,

Cronenberg is an awesome director (Scanners and The Fly are probably my favourites. History of Violence and Eastern Promises also had their moments) but A Dangerous Method isn't being touted as 1 of his best. I'll still catch it on DVD though.

A Dangerous Method, directed by David Cronenberg has just been released. it deals with the relationship between Freud and Jung around the time of their ideological split. Definitely looking forward to it.

Hopefully going to see this at the weekend. I'm a big Cronenberg fan.

'The Ascendants' with George Clooney is meant to be good. Anyone seen it yet?

Re: New Films Thread
I loved it. Loved every bit of it incuding SB-C. More than any other MS film, including the one about the gangsters, or the other one about the gangsters, or even that other one abov the gangsters. ;-). Seriously, every scene was gorgeous to look at. And of course, like a tit, I cried at the end.

Re: New Films Thread
Nurse,

I enjoyed Hugo. Not one of scorsese's masterpieces but decent. It's a film for film lovers and the magic of cinema- which probably explains why i liked it and why it's garnered so many nominations.

Didn't like Baren Cohen in it though, thought he was cringingly bad.

You?

I'm looking forward to 'Turpin'. Very clever take on the legend, apparently. I don't think it's even been announced yet.
