Pringle 1 West Midlands Police 0
Just got back from Coventry magistrates where today was the trial after i was arrested for allegedly being drunk at a football match. Coventry away earlier in the season.

The first appearence was way back in December where i pleaded not guitly , i had to go back in January where the case was adjourned due to the evidence from the WMP not being ready.

My case ( a magistrates trial) was heard today and the only evidence from the WMP , well the PC fumbled his way through his so called evidence after my solicitor ripped him to shreds about me being drunk.

My good friend Jack, you all know him on here as JACK1 and his daughter gave up their time to serve a witnesses along with my own daughter today and i cannot thank them enough for all their support throughout.

According to my solicitor who was from Coventry these kind of arrests happen all the time to away fans , even at quite games , most of those arrested and charged for being drunk at football simply cough a guilty plea which carries a 3 year football ban just to get it over with. If your up to it and you have some good people behind you it is definately worth the fight..

Hope this all makes sense .... time for a beer ;-)

easy targets, just like drivers. makes me sick as they do it to make thier arrest figures look better.

They are an absolute joke, I went to Birmingham few years back and remember them pushing my dad (50s) around in a police escort. Well done to all involved and I have taken note of your advice Jack1.

Commanding officer has to keep the arrest rate up to justify his overmanning of the occasion.
Think about the many away games you have been to where the local Plod are hyped up to the eyeballs for trouble that is the last thing on the away supporters minds.
I did rant on about the wmp after they kept us in the pub car park at Villa and as a result most of us missed the kick off.
Very pleased that it all went your way Mr.Pringle

If it was a case of being unsteady on your feet and smelling beer on your breath i wouldn't get in any ground in the country

Re: Pringle 1 West Midlands Police 0
It seems a general consensus that the WMP a right bunch of ****’s. I am not vindictive but when the prosecutor came out of the court to break the news to the arresting police officer the case was dismissed the look on his face was a picture - I really thought he was gonna burst into tears – . Whenever I go to Villa, Covenrty ,Wolves or Brum , its nothing but aggro from the WMP- herded like animals from the station , marched past funeral processions( completely of the main road and down a side road ) attacked with batons , my daughter whacked in the face by WMP ( last year’s semi- final) and 3 years ago another mate I went was arrested for the same thing as Pringle and again after 3 hearings and giving evidence the case was dismissed.
Pringle ( and my other mate I mentioned were both arrested ) not for actually being drunk as in drunk and disorderly but for trying to enter a designated sporting arena or being in the vicinity whilst being intoxicated . In Pringle’s case they actually dropped being drunk in the vicinity of a sports venue (5 minutes before the trial started) as the evidence was so weak but instead just proceded on the basis he was drunk!! The modus operandi on both arrests by the WMP were remarkably similar, WMP come up to the victim from behind (no pun intended) outside the away turnstiles – just before kick off when people are jostling to get in – grab them from behind arms one police on each arm and say you are unsteady on your feet and your breath smells of alcohol and proceed to drag you away to the police area and book you and then all the fun starts banning order in the meantime before the trial. In Pringles case what was more shocking is that he was at or near the turnstiles with his and my daughter whose first West ham game it was (sorry no links) when he grabbed from behind by 2 heavily built WMP the WMP police took no notice of the fact he was with his daughter and it was only fortunate my daughter who was with them knew to come and find me or the poor girl would have been left on her own in that environment.
If anything good has come of these rather bad experiences should you find yourself in this situation sadly just accept it on the day and don’t make it worse by arguing and do a no comment – the booking in officer will do a statement saying you were drunk, The extent of the police evidence I have found in these cases like this is bog standard and very weak – they simply say you were intoxicated and unsteady on your feet – that is about it. I have learnt It is perfectly acceptable to have a few beers before the game and have alcohol on your breath the court will accept because you have had a drink it doesn’t follow that you were drunk as the WMP seem to want to say – it is your word and those of your witness’s if they are reliable (I even said I had 3 beers in my evidence).
