Wenger...How Long More...???
CAn't see Wenger lasting more than this season as Manager...

Time to kick the Old Frog Upstairs...or send him back to manage France next season...

Absolutely pathetic season by Arsenal's previous years' standards...

Au Revoir Professeur...!!!

Spurs bloke is deluded.

Harry to Arsenal after England would absolutely typical of him.

And what if they get Mourinho?

Spurs bloke who works for me reckons Harry is only going to do it for the Euro's and then return to Spurs.

couldnt agree with you more Joker. For me, everyone is parading Harry as a new god. The press will ruin him in under a year and I dont think he is a tactical genius.

For me, promote from within with Pearce (done a decent job at U21 and played at the highest level) or get Hiddink or Jose.

Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
Yeah, I agree with that - Venables and Robson were better managers than Saggy Chops.

...thoguh an added bonus of Harry getting the England jonb means that Spurs would have to get a new manager and as they proved with Ramos, that isn't always that easy.

Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
dicksie,

Harry was great for us mate. No question. He gave me some of my best adult memories watching the Hammers.

He has done great at Spurs too, but IMHO, they have been a very good side for number of years now and dropped a major bollock sacking JOl when they did to replace him with Ramos, other wise they might (MIGHT), have already been challenging for top 4 regularly before Harry came along.

I'm not dismissing him as a bad manager. In fact he is a very good manager, but he's not the messiah! People DID think Keegan was, and although he didn't have as much of a track record as Harry, he also built a side full of verve and flair and went very close to winning the league... Not a million miles different from what Harry is currently doing now.

I just don't think Redknapp has got the tactical nous at the highest level. Even his 'great nights' at Spurs vs the Milan clubs last season coincided with Bale having a couple of the games of his life.

As for the last two decent English managers, I'd agree with Venables and, unpopular though it may be, not so much Sir Bob. I remember Robson being villified before England stumbled (and we did!), to the semis of Italia '90. A lot of history has been re-written kindly about Sir Bobby, possibly rightly because he was a gentleman, but he wasn't as loved and feted at the time as the history books like to make out.

Anyway I digress. I WOULD have Harry as he is a proven decent manager, but I would rather Mourinho, Hiddink or Wenger.

Sorry mate!

hope they stick with him and their form continues to get worse and worse and they end up having regular league derby matches vrs barnet every season

Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
dicksie - to be fair i was fishing but i would not put Redknapp on the same level as Robson and certainly not Vanables. He has won one FA Cup with a team that financially ruined the club.

Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
The Joker, I seriously don't know how you can seemingly put Saggy Chops on the same level as Keegan.

Face it: he's the last real decent manager that we've had. He may have stabbed his best mate to get the job but he certainly made it his own. West Ham United were a fucking joke in the late 80s/early 90s... We were up-and-down all the time. Saggy Chops turned us into a respectable side again which were very entertaining to watch.

Again, I don't know how you can dismiss his achievements at both Pompey and with Spurs; I'm totally baffled really.

Also, I'll point-out again that England's last two successful managers were English (Venables and Robson); both of whom also had great success in club management.

Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
I really don't see Redknapp as any kind of tactical genius and, IMHO, we tried the English, great, passionate, man-manager in Keegan. Back then I thought, much like many now, "Oh well, worst ways we'll play good footballl even if we don't win anything". I was wrong. We played shit football and were tactically outmanoueverd at every turn by better, more sophisticated opponents.

Once the tub-thumping and 'just go and play lads' was shown to be next to useless we realised we needed someyhing more than a cheerleader who everyone liked. I can see history repeating itself. Unfortunately we ended up with Capello, who while tactically sound, made the team moribund and introverted.

Be honest, before Redknapp took the Spurs job (and he has done well, though it has coincided with the relative fall from grace of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool), no one was championing him. He's flavour of the month but is nowhere near the likes of Wenger, Mourinho, Hiddink, or Ancelotti - all of whom I would be looking at if I were the FA. They can all motivate, they are all tactically astute and they all know and understand the English game.

Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
Both Arsenal and Chelsea just 8 points better than Norwich - compare their spending, revenue capabilities and fan base.

Good football and great management will serve a club better in the long run than media hype, egos, 'marquee' signings, hotels, casinos etc.....

Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
LJC, are you joking?... He turned us from a yo-yo club into an entertaining, attacking side full of quality that challenged for and played in Europe...

He transformed Pompey from a team in the lower reaches of the Championship into a top-ten Premiership club; winning the FA Cup to boot...

He's given Spurs some of their best seasons in the top-flight in donkey's years; where they're on-course to finish in 3rd place this season...

So, not a lot really. I don't like the bloke one bit but I'm not going to pretend that he's a poor managern because he clearly isn't...

Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
The difference between Saggy Chops, McClaren and Keegan is that Saggy Chops is actually a very good manager.

For me, a proven English manager will get the best out of the national side... And that's the same for any country...

Take a look back at the last team England were successful - reaching the semi-finals of Euro 96 and Italia 90... It's no coincidence that both managers were English (Venables and Robson) with a solid track-record in management...

The Joker 12:19 Thu Feb 16
Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
Are you saying Redknapp is a better manager than Wenger? Or that it's just because he's English you want him? To paraphrase Wenger, I'd rather appoint on someone's ability rather than their passport.

Have you forgotten MacLaren and Keegan already?

dicksie3 12:16 Thu Feb 16
Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
Hiddink has a very decent record as an international manager and, if we were to go foreign at any stage in the future again, he'd be my preferred choice...

LJC 12:12 Thu Feb 16
Re: Wenger...How Long More...???
Huh dicksie3 - you are the best English manager??

For what its worth i think Hiddink or Mourinho would be my choice.
