John Bond Ill in hospital
Had a message from Tim at Ex magazine to say that John Bond, a player that some of you older lads will no doubt remember, is currently ill in hospital.

Tim's asked us to put a thread up so that any Hammers fans that remember him can leave messages wishing him well.

Tim didn't say in his message what's up, but one imagines it must be quite serious as he's in his late 70s and he's in hospital.

Please post your messages and memories of John on this thread. Tim intends to print it off and take it in to John to lift his spirits over the next few days.

Having played for us in the 50s and 60s he's a little before my time, but I hope you'll join me in wishing him well!

Bondy is now back at his Cheshire home but is still weak and very ill. He has appreciated phone calls from his former WHU team-mates.

I have tried phoning Kevin at his work, but its not connecting, and not that easy from Waiheke,
Can one of you London based lads contact him to see how his Dad is, and pass on our best wishes,
Thanks Dave

My memories
Not high profile but a very classy player that epitomised the academy.

I think it was the old Stratford Express that called him,
John "They shall not pass" BOND.
He is affectionately called "Muffin Bondy" in TwinHammer circles.
His Banter with the Chicken Run faithful is still talked about by the older THs,
and his goal against the Ghent Men is one of Berts favourites

Get well soon. Remember him him as a manager not a player but dad always said what a shot he had. How many of the current squad have 381 appearances to their name?

Re: John Bond Ill in hospital
it was also because he was prone to muff up his accuracy at times,
But a kick like mule was his major asset.
and his connection on his first time kick was outstanding
