Re: Messi
HPFL has given league goals and appearances only.

In all competitions he has made 309 appearances and scored 222 goals. He's also made 93 assists.

Ronaldo is a goal-scoring machine but is nowhere near Messi technically. When Ronaldo's pace goes he will not be anywhere near the same player; when Messi's pace goes he'll drop into midfield and play the Xavi role. His passing is as good as his finishing and his dribbling.

Re: Messi
He turned down the offer of a Spanish passport made to attempt to get him to play for Spain as , I think, a teenager.

Re: Messi
In the Football League, (and I include all four divisions by whatever tarted up name they now proclaim themselves to be) the record for a single season is 8 hattricks by one player.

Yes it makes people run faster and last longer... there are no injuries now... it's all to do with plugging footballes into machines just like they did with Ivan Drago in Rocky 4

Just got back from Barcelona. That display was just outstanding. It was a pleasure to watch the whole team.

Don't think I could have picked a better game to watch.

I am not sure how far the SCOPE of SPORTS SCIENCE extends, Sold.

Re: Messi
Do you think the sports scientists might be able to make him tackle properly?

Scholes is pushing near 50... is asthmatic... and ginger... and yet STILL plays for the champions....

THANK THE LORD FOR SPORTS SCIENCE

Re: Messi

scholes may well start off in the same 'position' but he doesnt play the same role. he doesnt have the legs to get box to box anymore, he plays a more intelligent game and tries to conserve his energy a bit. he drops a lot deeper to get the ball and sprays it about rather than making darting runs forward all the time. yes of course his natural instinct still gets him into decent positions occasionally, ie the header the other week, but he doesnt score anywhere near the same ammount of goals that he usedto because he simply doesnt get forward as much.

playing in the same positin is one thing, playing the same role and the same game as he did in his early twenties is quite another mate.

Re: Messi
Giggs was out of the left against Chelsea, are you saying he is the same winger he was 20yrs ago?

Joey Woodwork 12:00 Mon Feb 20
Re: Messi
P

Scholes plays a different role, yes it is the same positon, but he is a different type of player to what he was 15 years ago.

Re: Messi
P repeating things over and over again does not make what you are saying any more true.

Re: Messi
Crookswork, you surprised em there...i'd have thought you of all people would have known Scholes was playing as a forward 15 years ago!

Steve P 11:51 Mon Feb 20
Re: Messi
Scholes plays in exactly the same position that he always has - didn't I see him miss a header the other day? not exactly hanging back?

Joey Woodwork 11:50 Mon Feb 20
Re: Messi
There will be exceptions obviously, but you can't disagree that Scholes and Giggs play different roles.
