David Haye's Statement
|
|
From his Twitter page
Sorry if done before
It is with regret that I feel I have to issue this statement to clarify certain matters, following an unfortunate incident that occurred on Saturday night (February 18) in Munich, Germany at the Vitali Klitschko vs. Dereck Chisora post-fight press conference. I was in Munich to watch the WBC world heavyweight title bout between Klitschko and Chisora and provide punditry for BoxNation, and accredited as such. During the post-fight press conference, I was stood at the back of the room. It wasn't until Bernd Bonte said my name and involved me in the press conference that I commented. I was then happy to banter back and forth with Bonte and Klitschko, keen to ascertain whether he (Vitali) would stay true to his word and reiterate his desire to do what his younger brother couldn't do - knock me out. I felt as though the public would want to hear more information about this potential bout and that we could both start beating the drum ahead of a showdown later this year. However, at this point Chisora began firing insults at me from his position on the top table. In fact, he has recently made a habit of saying derogatory things about me in the press. Moments before declaring he wanted to go face-to-face with me, Chisora assured the gathered media that he would give me 'two slaps'. Chisora had, of course, already been shrouded in controversy that weekend. Despite this, Chisora climbed down from the top table, removed his robe and then walked towards me, entourage in tow, in an aggressive manner. I held my ground, but, unfortunately, he caused a serious disturbance to occur, something which threatened to damage the reputation of the sport we both love. Regrettably, some members of his entourage also encouraged the chaos. Nevertheless, Chisora and I soon separated, brushed ourselves down and moved in opposite directions. The confrontation then reignited, however, and both Don Charles and Adam Booth became involved in the mess. Adam suffered a cut to the head. Thankfully, it didn't take long for the ruckus to again settle down. It was then that I heard Chisora say he planned to 'shoot me dead'. I decided to leave the venue and return to my hotel, a move which I hoped would diffuse the situation. However, Chisora's team were staying at the same hotel as me and, in light of the threats Chisora had made in front of the world's media, it seemed far more appropriate for me and Adam to leave the hotel as quickly as possible. Consequently, I left Munich on an earlier flight on Sunday morning and have been thinking about what happened ever since, as well as replaying the incident many times via YouTube. It goes without saying, I am bitterly disappointed to have been a part of what transpired on Saturday evening. I realise I am no angel - and don't mind a bit of professional trash-talk to help raise boxing's profile - but, during my 21 years in the sport, I have never been involved in, or even witnessed, such a serious fracas. If requested, I shall happily assist the boxing authorities with any investigation they wish to launch and, ultimately, hope that all lessons learned from this incident will be implemented. I also hope Dereck Chisora is able to learn from his mistakes this past weekend, right the wrongs and then go on to fulfil his potential in the boxing ring.

if mallard can apologise in advance in case he posted a thread twice, why can't David Haye apologise for his actions?
I can't see anywhere where he takes any responsiblity or apologises for his pathetic behaviour.

I'll ban myself if BMU chap finds the posts of where I've said that boxing as a whole is boring and finished etc, which is what he claims.
' - I post my opinions, in no way do I pretend to be a expert at boxing.
This situation has been blown way out of proportion, I think you'll agree.

Still no one out there to take their belts off them, though. Which proves what a woeful division it is. I'd rather look at that problem than the fact that people find them boring boxers.
Boxing is an art form, a self defence anyway. I would rather watch it from a technical view, look at their defence, jab etc than all the bullshit razzamatazz that comes with shit fighters like all the twats nowadays. Most of them use that to hide the fact that theyre not actually very good.

I wasn't referring to the Klitchko's. I was referring to their german manager.

Because they are soo fucking boring to watch.
I'd rather read a Bolty post than watch them fight.

bolty, I can see why some people think that your ignorance of the subject renders you banned from boxing threads.
It has always been the case that in pro boxing someone, who is not part of a boxers own team, is allowed to witness the bandaging of hands. To want to witness it does not show a lack of class at all.

I still don't really know what all the fuss is about with regards to this fracas, to tell you the truth. Possible life-long bans and prison sentences?! Fucking ridiculous.
Seriously, these two blokes are/were paid to fight in a ring and they happened to have a fight outside the ring which only lasted a matter of moments.
Neither of them were badly hurt; nor was anybody else (apart from a cut to Haye's manager's head) and they have both now apologised for the incident. That should be the end of it, really...

How have they killed heavyweight boxing? I'd suggest the previous 10 years of mediocrity and lack of skill in the division has killed it more than 2 semi decent heavy weights.

It was a good watch wasn't it? and you're right about the money riding on the fights.
What surprised me was how the ones who were properly boxing trained were absolutely no better than the fat old scrappers. Just shows how when it's toe to toe on the street it's anyone's game.

I don't get all this 'embarrassment to Britain' lark.
On the contrary, their behaviour was extremely representative of modern Britain.

Being aggressive out of the ring is completely different to being aggressive in it.
I'm willing to give both fighters the benifit of the doubt in terms of their actions, because we all say and do things in the heat of the moment.
We agree their behaviour was terrible, but no where near as bad as say biting someones ear off mid fight.
Whilst we're talking about class, On Klitschkos part him going into Chisoras dressing room to check his gloves etc lacked class, but because it's the media darlings that are the Klitschkos nowt will be said about that.

Exactly... after that Harrison and Haye non contest I decided enough was enough.. I don't give a fuck about gobbing water or brawling like 5 year olds at press conferences the stuff that is happening in the ring is an absolute disgrace.... I hear apparently that the commentator asked haye how he thought the old heavies of old would get along with today's Heavies... Haye said `they would not be able to live with us now..."

Re: David Haye's Statement

Bolty, the behaviour of those two was unacceptable at a press conference. Simple as that.
They let themselves down and lived down to the sad english stereotype that abounds abroad because of the boorish, anti social behaviour we exhibit, especially a long way from home.
Take it from me that despite what their apologists say on this site the overwhelming majority of us deplore their lack of class.
What is ironic is that these two seem to be far more aggressive outside the ring, and unpaid, than they were in the ring against the Ukrainians.
