Re: Just had our dog put to sleep.
If it helps. Our dog 14 yo collapsed on Xmas day.
Try getting a vet on Xmas day.
Of course charged the earth.grand plus. Said she had a heart prob and they could drain blood etc which might help but did'nt give much hope. They advised putting her down as sooner or later ,-a few months at best.
Well Thought about putting her down but decided to wait and brought her home after 3 days.
Was poorly but picked up to our surpise, she is moving around alright and seems fine.
crossed fingers but glad I did'nt get her put down.
The old bird still cracks a smile and gobbles her food down like a pup !

Kenzo... after three minutes the dog has taken a revolver and shot his brains out...

Surely the best way to put your dog to sleep is by leaving it in a room with Norwaytips for 5 minutes

Sydney.

I really feel for you mate. It is one of the most difficult decisions to take and all pet lovers fear the ay they have to make that decision.

I have had to make that decision on a number of occassions over the years and will have to again in the future..........it is never easy mate.

It takes courage, complete selflessness an and a certain strength of characterAll the best over the next few days.

Re: Just had our dog put to sleep.
Totally feel for you Northern. We lost our chocolate lab 22 months ago and it still hurts when i think of her. Our black lab is nearly 13 years old and is not good at the moment with arthritis and other conditions, we thought we were going to lose him the other week.

Anyone who isn't affected by losing a dog doesn't understand the loyalty between a man and his dog. If you take the piss out of a fellow hammer, then i suggest you are supporting the wrong team and should go and join this cnuts at tottenscum.

Re: Just had our dog put to sleep.
Missed this thread at the time but we had our 15year old border collie put down mid January. Extremely though going. Crazy how quick he turned, fine in the morning but come the evening he was in a right state. We think he must have had a stroke which culminated in the car on the way to the vets. He was still alive when we got there but there was almost no life left in him at all. Very sad times.

Sorry to hear that SI. My Beagle (well my daughter's officially) is not yet 2 but I'm already dreading losing him. He's probably my best mate. Went absolutely crazy yesterday when Nolan scored (probably due to my screams of delight).

Go to Korea, boy do they know what to do with a dead dog.

Re: Just had our dog put to sleep.
Reading this thread when it first started and remember thinking my hound is getting on in years as he’s 14, then late last week he had a huge boil like lump appear on his throat, he was off his food and just lying on his bed, off to the Vet, took a biopsy, gave him antibiotics, lump went down a bit, he perked up a bit.

Got the results of the biopsy yesterday, he’s got leukaemia and there isn’t much they can do, Vet said he’s got a couple of months at best, felt gutted particularly as he’s almost back to himself and seems happy and contented as ever, said he may be in pain as the disease progress’s but as long as he was eating it was maybe bearable for him, so now I just have to wait to that day he wont eat and its of to the Vet for the final time, going to be one of the toughest days of my life.

Yesterday started so well with our win at Cardiff but now im devastated, he always sits next to me when im watching matches in the small hours and im sure he’s a Hammer as he gets excited each time we score, well maybe down to seeing me jump around when we score.

Have also purposely avoided this thread, hoping it would slip off the board quietly.

Condolences, Northern. I know I'd be a quivering mess if I lost the big man.

He's eight now...bulldogs, on average, reach nine-ish...so this has all, in fairness, ruined my fucking day.

Re: Just had our dog put to sleep.
You'd think things like this would hopefully get a tiny bit easier as you get older but if anything I think a lot of us actually get more sentimental.

Fuckin' damn right Chim... I was bubbling like a good un last night on Animal rescue Houston and Pit Bulls and payrolees.... fucking Animal Planet was making me a right ol' mess..

Re: Just had our dog put to sleep.
Genuinely sorry to hear that. I had a dog from the age of 5 up to I was 19 and I can still remember the day she was put to sleep. It is horrible.
