DFS Not happy with the playing surface tonight
DFS isn't happy with the playing surface tonight and says it won't be helpful to the style of football we play.

Is there Air much different in Blackpool as it is down here then?

He has some front i'll give the boring wanker that.

The backtracking by the OP is quite hilarious now he is being proved to be wrong. Especially considering the snidey digs in the opening gambit.

Almost as funny as the delusion 'you'll thank me now he is listening'

What a pillock. Leave the supporting to those who actually get behind the team and manager.

Re: DFS Not happy with the playing surface tonight
The thing I love most about what Allardyce has seemingly implemented is the fact that we are no longer getting rolled over and brushed aside by teams (Ipswich aside!)

It would have been a massive feat to have help on to a 2-1 victory last night after going down to 10 men and having an outfield player in goal - but we went on to win 4-1!

That's on top of defeating Millwall after losing a man early and also gaining a valuable draw at home to Southampton - again with only 10 men. A game we may well have won had we managed to hold out for a little longer.

West Ham - as a team - have finally gained a pair of bollocks.

Long may it continue!

Re: DFS Not happy with the playing surface tonight
So KIA, question for you, as someone who goes to every game - Nolan coming bak in, yes or no? And to a lesser extent, Cole coming back in, yes or no?

*obviously I understand that both have a huge role to play, but if you're picking our best XI...

Re: DFS Not happy with the playing surface tonight
Yeah, it's fair to say I was expecting us to lump it up to Cole.

Having said that, we did seem to be trying to hit Maynard with the high balls in the first half but soon found out he was far more effective on the deck.

Re: DFS Not happy with the playing surface tonight
He pulled everyones pants down there didn't he.

We were expecting a night of the smashing of the long balls, Holloway and Blackpool expected a night of the smashing of the long balls and then got the ball down, played it on the floor with style and speeds and ripped them a new arsehole

Re: DFS Not happy with the playing surface tonight
I've never said I have it right about Sam.

It has been my opinion, my opinion that i find the football we have played on whole boring. I wish I hadn't I wish I could be like most others and enjoy a win with the only shot on goal being a penalty but I can't.

One thing I do believe I am right on is that it is possible to play well AND win and I have backed that belief up a number of times.

I am happy to read people with a different opinion, I enjoy these debates. The people i refuse to read are people like Hugh and most of the time HP4L

Mr P,

No need to get defensive fella, we are just having a debate, coming from different (not opposite directions)

I will continue to open and read your posts as I am not 5 years old and can actually handle the fact that I, dont know everything, am not always right and can learn/change my opinion based on changing conditions or facts that I had not considered or had forgotten about.

I will also continue to voice my disagreement or ask other questions, leaving them to decide whether or not to answer.

Finally i forgive you for being snippy, it must be hard being the ONLY PERSON on who that is right and having to answer and re-educate all these people that are wrong :-)

FINALLY - The last 2 games have given me optimism that Sam is now coming around to the fact that it is possible to win and play attractive football. Let's hope it carrys on. - AMEN

MPI

1) I've said that we have played good football at times and when we have we have opened teams up and looked really good, only to default to boring percentage football. This is the big frustration because I know we can play it and be successful. I have come away from most games, even wins, fed up and bored.

2) So what? even if we hadn't played good football ever in our whole history, that doesn't mean we shouldn't want to see it now.

I want to win and I want to be entertained and i won't be happy until I get both, I make no apologies for that. If you don't like me moaning about it, don't open up my threads or read my posts. There are plenty of people I never read anymore, everyone is welcome to do the same to me.

The answer to Q2 is 5th march 2009 HTH. That was before Zola was given free reign in a transfer market that with methods of working that he was ill equiped to deal with, and did good work with good players.

Wasn't the build up to all four goals a result of playing on the floor?

Ok, the first was a corner

Re: DFS Not happy with the playing surface tonight
In all seriousness, I for one am happy to take my hat off to the fish head-eating Northern monkey. He's done an absolutely superb job.

Over the course of the summer and for the first part of the season, I had my concerns about the transfer policy in terms of its longevity - we had bought stop gap players for a short term aim and to that extent, it looked like that squad would need rebuilding all over again for the PL. Fair enough, but very expensive. The attributes, too, of the players brought in made us (at times) look one dimensional, and it was pretty ugly to watch for the most part.

The three signings he made in January (albeit we've only seen two, the third is supposed to be the best) have changed all that. We have options on how to approach games, flexibility in our attacking play, and can pretty much tailor our approach for any given opposition. Last night was an excellent, balls out selection from him. Blackpool like to play football? Great, we have better players, so we'll play football too and destroy them.

For a while now I've been banging on and boring people that we don't NEED a target man, playing without one makes he players take more responsibilty with the ball and actually think about what they're doing rather than just smashing it up to whomever it may be, in the hope they'll 'hold it up and bring others into play'. Whilst this approach had us top of teh League, you couldn't have too many complaints, but there was always a suspicion that we were rather getting away with it than dominating in the way we had the potential to do.

It's by no means a criticism of Cole & Nolan; they both do what they do well - but with both in the side you're only really likely to play one way, which invariably ends with one up top and one just behind looking to feed off knock-downs. Now, we can commit three, four, five players into the box and all of those players can interchange positions and be equally comfortable on the ball.

I don't suppose any of us would be unduly surprised to see Cole & Nolan return to the side - after all, playing to their strengths did get us to the top of the League. But last night (by all accounts) gave us a glimpse of what we are capable of. We have the players to play decent football, its a question of whether we choose to or not.

If playing to their strengths got us to the top of the League, playing without their limitations gave us the chance to produce our best performance of the season.

It's a lovely selection problem for the manager to have. Can't think of the last time we had options like that, and its a selection problem of his own creation, because HE has assembled an excellent squad.

Well done, fat lad.

"well to be honest i find it upsetting that so many are willing to accept poor football as if they believe it is the only way to get out of this division."

1) It's not been as (consistantly)poor as your blinkers are leading you to beleive.

2) When, to the date, was the last time we played good football?

So we in all agreement that kevin Nolan is a concrete block of a immobile cunt and should be left out for the rest of the season?? Good... glad we got that straight...

Re: DFS Not happy with the playing surface tonight
Comma,

Fair comment. Perhaps i do go too far the other way at times. I think i am rare in that I would always choose performance and entertainment over results - as a whole. And so the good results although of course I am happy with really haven't been enough for me to accept what I see as boring football. Like I say, i realise that i am in the minority.

One thing I will say though is I am more than happy to change my mind on him once the football changes, it's not once I dislike him i'll always dislike him. I'd love for him to become our most successful manager as long as we do it playing nicely.

As for enjoying the flak - well to be honest i find it upsetting that so many are willing to accept poor football as if they believe it is the only way to get out of this division. So no i don't enjoy it, but i won't shy away from it just to fit in with the majority.

Excellent post.

Can't deny I love (LOVE) Polite's stamina on BFS and the style of play, but I think our play generally has been better than Polite thinks and BFS is given credit for.
