Watched a documentary called Liberia: Drugs, Guns and Slums about child soldiers last night. It featured an ex rebel leader named General Butt Naked (as well as General Bin Laden and General Rambo), who has been pardoned for his war crimes in part due to his conversation to evangelical Christianity. I had never heard the like in my life, was like watching a real life Mad Max:
Blahyi (Butt Naked) has said he led his troops naked except for shoes and a gun. He believed that his nakedness was a source of protection from bullets. Blahyi now claims he would regularly sacrifice a victim before battle, saying, "Usually it was a small child, someone whose fresh blood would satisfy the devil." He explained "Sometimes I would enter under the water where children were playing. I would dive under the water, grab one, carry him under and break his neck. Sometimes I'd cause accidents. Sometimes I'd just slaughter them.In January 2008, Milton-Blahyi confessed to taking part in human sacrifices which "included the killing of an innocent child and plucking out the heart, which was divided into pieces for us to eat.
"So, before leading my troops into battle, we would get drunk and drugged up, sacrifice a local teenager, drink their blood, then strip down to our shoes and go into battle wearing colourful wigs and carrying imaginary purses we'd looted from civilians. We'd slaughter anyone we saw, chop their heads off and use them as soccer balls. We were nude, fearless, drunk yet strategic. We killed hundreds of people – so many I lost count." Blahyi also purported that during that period he had "magical powers that made him invisible" and a "special power" to capture a town singlehandedly, then call in his troops afterwards to "clean up"Some of Blahyi's soldiers – often teenage boys – would enter battle naked; others would wear women's clothes.
The UN are due to leave next year and this documentary claimed the country will fall to bits again when they do. Thoughts?

Just seen Manor's earlier post about it being on Current TV as well - that is a bloody good channel, sadly marooned in amongst the ones you can't imagine anyone ever watching on the satellite numbers (near the Horror Channel and shit like that I think).
Gangs of El Salvador was another great show they did.

You can (kind of) understand the corruption, the violence, the all round idiocy of it all when it comes from someone born and raised into it and who knows nothing else, but there have been so many examples of people being educated in the west, going there, often with the west's backing, in the hope they will reform the place, and they just slip into exactly the same thing. fucking depressing.

MPH , I dont recall where. Coffee the which doctor completely shit himself and started crying promising never to "Prescribe" spells/medicine , what ever you call it , with Albino blood/skin again.

I watched a programme on BBC world about the trade in Africa for Albino body parts , big medicine apparently. Anyway these body parts are now sought after and have mrant Albvino children have been dragged from their homes and had their limbs chopped off and sold to "Witch doctors",

To us, it's shocking....
But a country/continent where millions upon millions of people would rather go to their local witch doctor to cure themselves than a doctor, it's to be expected.
They did and still do believe that people are empowered by the gods/eating hearts of innocent children etc. etc.
The power these people hold over 'believers' is astonishing though...Least of all because the people with the power believe they have the power....If that makes sense....
