I'm really surprised this has been given so much attention.

I don't boo my own team & it almost makes me even cringe to use the word, because it's such a childish thing to do. But I consider it something that just happens, in virtually any game where the home side are playing noticeably worse than the other team and not winning. I hear it all the time on the TV in those situations and nothing is ever made of it.

It's just people saying "that was shit, buck up your ideas West Ham", albeit in what I think is an embarrassing way. It's not exactly the Emperor Claudius turning his thumb down for a gladiator. Players should be more than able to deal with something as trivial as this, especially when it really isn't close to being the whole crowd booing them. I think most of them can to be fair.

What's more, down in chav corner we seemed to have most of the booing, but also most of the general vocal atmosphere for the whole game, so make of that what you will.

I remember a few seasons ago drawing 0-0 at Anfield in the cold with only about 1200 of us there. The point put Liverpool at the top of the Prem but their fans still booed. We were singing "top of the league, you're having a laugh" (well "avin a larf" then) and I thought waht a bunch of cunts the scouse fans were.

That's us now

I don't want the players to think we are all like that. They will though.

Before my time but older West Ham who I go with and meet up with at matches say that The Boleyn used to be a place that few teamns liked coming to. I think teams sense they could always nick a win these days.

I think the WHO poll said it all...79% for a win,i was hoping for a win,but my mind said a draw. They have a good defence. So no excuses for booing, those who boo are not genuine supporters.

Re: Top of the League and still some boo us off
For a couple of decades now the worst performances have come from the home support at UP. Unless there is a bigger club/ a local derby with a violent hatred, the crowd just sits there and waits to be entertained and lifted by the team performance, when it should be the other way round, WE should set the game up to be in our favour and give encouragement when needed.

Support should mean being there to lift the team spirit when it's low, not get wet when they see some pretty football and then show they are pleased by this, that's called expectancy.

Can't be arsed to read the whole thread, but I'd make this point: several people say they were booing - or approve of booing - on the basis that the performance was poor.

I can cast-iron guarantee that had we popped a goal in with the very last kick of the match not a boo would have been heard. The performance however would have been the same.

If all West Ham means to you is a product which you exchange for some dosh then you are a customer, not a supporter.

Home advantage comes from having the crowd on your side - the 12th man. Replace that with boos and what do you get?

Anyway, it's Carnevale in the village today so I'm taking the kids down for some joyful screaming, cheering, clapping and dancing. Maybe some of the precious whingers on here should come down to get their fix of mindless enthusiasm rather than expecting it at a competitive football match.

Yep, and reluctantly, I give credit to freedman for that, peroni son. Our better performances, and entertainment, have been almost entirely down to the form of tomkins and noble, who've been absolutely superb and run the midfield for us. Neither had poor games yesterday, but I couldn't really say we dominated in there.

If there was one note of concern for me it was how quickly we lost patience and went long when we weren't winning the midfield battle. That was disappointing after recent performances, but as i say, fair play to freedman - his plan worked and they might have won it but for Greeno, who by all accounts was shaky on Tuesday but back to his best yesterday

Danish - Good to see that he admits he fucked up. You would think he would know better than going with the old cliche of not changing a winning side nonsense, his biggest fuck up yesterday was playing 1 up front first half IMO.

Anyway, this is boring now. We are all discussing that multi millionaire footballers may be a little upset that they were booed, bless them, what a load of old shit, you think they give a fuck about us? how much money you got in the bank?

Re: Top of the League and still some boo us off
I agree Stewie - there was certainly no booing from me (at my laptop). My expectations were high yesterday though. and it just seems we can't seem to be able to turn it up a notch and really push on by stringing a few comfortable wins together. I thought we would do that after Tuesday. I'm sure it was just a similar feeling of frustration felt yesterday by those who let their displeasure known. I fully understand it and don't see it's the major issue being made on here. I'd be more concerned if they were cheered off.

Re: Top of the League and still some boo us off
Haha! Fwiw, peroni son, as much as I don't like it, there are times when I can understand the booing. A lack of effort on the part of the players, a lack of organisation stemming from poor management, poor refereeing etc.

None of that happened yesterday, it just didn't really happen for us. Not for the want of trying, not because of some glaring tactical errors, it was just one of those days that happen to every team in every season. Bar none.

Bleeding C, here is what BFS said yesterday, so he does take some (!) responsibility:

"I might have made a slight mistake in picking exactly the same 11 that started at Blackpool, but I thought they'd done so well and deserved to come and play at home in this game."

"Booing is an act of showing displeasure for someone or something, generally an entertainer"

There you go. It revolves around entertainment! With that definition, 85% of our victories could legitimately be booed.

ted - yea if someone did it that was right behind me then I'd agree.

danish - dunno, can't be bothered to read it, but what i've noticed in sam is that he is always happyto take all the credit but gets wound up when critisized. He had a pop at the fans earlier in the season. Nothing is never his fault.
