My 8-year-old son was a mascot yesterday.
He's been to 10 or so games, so was really excited and was hoping to walk out in his FAUBERT 18 shirt with the man himself.
He knew Faubert comes out last/late, so moved to the back of the mascots queue when they were waiting in the tunnel. It went exactly as he'd hoped and Sky showed a great shot of the two 18 shirts at the end of the line going out on to the pitch together.
Players are always getting criticised for being primadonnas and I know a good few of them are, but if there's an exception to prove the rule, it's Julien Faubert.
Even from my club-supplied Upper West seat, I could clearly see that Matthew was being looked after from the second he stepped out of the tunnel. JF had his hand on his shoulder, kept stooping to talk to him, lead him along the line and really seemed to be doing what he could to make his day.
Anyway, to top things off, I found @faubertofficial on Twitter and posted a thank you, just to be polite.
This morning, he replied
Don't know why, but I just thought a few Hammers fans might like to know all that.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, he is a decent bloke who not only loves West Ham and follows them home and away but he is also quick to help out fellow hammers.
Just because i disagree with him on Green doesn't mean the above isn't true. He gets far too much stick on here than he deserves.

Huffers - I quite agree. We approach loads of footballers who don't bother replying. However, it is WORSE to say "yes I'll come" and then not turn up.
If they just fail to reply I don't have a problem with that as I'm aware they get loads of requests.
