What is your favourite ever bit of commentary?
Mine is for Middlesbrough's 4th in this game, from the BBC Radio Cleveland commentators. Never gets old & cracks me up every time.

This thread is an Oasis in a sea of shite...

some great ones....

Always loved Bill McClarren at the rugby.. proper 30 man brawl ..."A bit of argy bargey"

Harry carpenter - Ali v Foreman... "Suddenly Ali looks very tired indeed. In fact Ali, at times now, looks as though he can barely lift his arms up . . . Oh, he's got him with a right hand! He's got him! Oh, you can't believe it. And I don't think Foreman's going to get up. He's trying to beat the count. And he's out! Oh my God, he's won the title back at 32"!

Re: What is your favourite ever bit of commentary?
great thread....

there was something on the BBC site a few years ago where they dusted off 10 great moments from local BBC fotball commentaries.

I'm probably wrong, but I think it may have been about Gazza, something like 'he's walking around like a fat spoilt brat...'.

Personal fav...'Down goes Fraizer! Down goes Frazier!'

1980 fa cup final, Brain Clough said Brooding cannot head a ball and did not score with his head. Then the replay showed Brooking getting down and scoring a great goal with his head. I just loved it, especially because we won.

Re: What is your favourite ever bit of commentary?
For sheer passion that gets the hairs to stand up on the back of my neck it has to be Barry Davies in the '86 World Cup. Laudrup was hin his pomp and Denmark were playing Uruguay. Laudrup gets the ball and goes on a mazy run, past one, another and another. Gets to the keeper, drags it past him and slots in from a really tight angle. He runs away in delight, hands in the air with the staduim erupting and after about 30 seconds Davies says "The man is a genuis".

He never said another thing. What I loved about Davies. He didn't ramble, he just complimented what was going on.

For entertainment purposes it has to be Sid Widdell talking about some Chinese dart player saying (in that strong accent) "Look at his stance!! He's like a coiled cobra!!"

Re: What is your favourite ever bit of commentary?
Oops, a proper senior moment there. Of course I meant Charlton against Mexico in 1966.

How about a couple of Ron Pickering's quotes on Daley Thompson at the LA Olympics in 1984:

"It's a better one, it's a better one, IT'S A BETTER ONE!"

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going"

"There's only one word for that - magic darts", Sid Waddell.

Also love the 1977 Grand National finishing commentary. A little bit before there was also one from Julian Wilson that made me chuckle - "Andy Pandy, Andy Pandy has gone!" in a kind of high pitched scream.
