"I wouldn't want to do it [the Championship] again": Green off unless we're promoted...
Reading between the lines...

‘The motivation is there,’ said Green, hoping a return to the Premier League will help him to add to his 11 caps. ‘For me, at West Ham, we have got to get promoted. It’s been different and in a way it’s been nice to not be in a team getting a pounding every week. But obviously it’s not Premier League football and that’s where the aim is to be.

‘We’ll see where the season takes us. If, by the end, we’re not promoted then you’d say it’s been rubbish and I wouldn’t want to do it again. It’s the end outcome really. It’s been good working under the manager (Sam Allardyce). He’s turned around a pretty depressed place and got it going in the right direction.
‘One thing you can do is man- manage people. It’s been good so far under him. It’s not where we want  to be; it’s life. If I spend my time  worrying about that, I’ll be pretty old by the end of the season.’

I think he has been awesome this year and he has worn our shirt with pride. He could have done a Parker and and as good as refused to play for us again when we went down!

On last season's form no top team came in for him...as he made too many errors IMO...

On this seasons top form...Prem clubs will be in for him...

But hopefully we will be a Prem team ...he will get a better contract and he will stay...

...and hopefully maintain his top form...

Stewie Griffin. You're wrong. Green signed a five year contract with an agreement to discuss an extension after 2 years. A year into it, after he'd had a very good season, he agitated for a rise. The club said no because an agreement had been made the previous year. This was all public knowledge at the time. Some people thought he was right to have a pay rise because he'd played well, some thought he was a greedy bastard. Where his loyalty comes from though when he hasn't signed a new deal and nobody's tried to sign him I don't know. How is he loyal? Is he loyal in the same way other players are loyal when they let their contracts run down so they can get a better deal at their next club.

Green is an underrated keeper by all outside of West Ham. He's better than half the keepers in the prem

Joe Hart is overrated. I won't say Green is better, but they aren't far apart either. Maybe if he gelled his hair into a faux-hawk and frosted the tips he'd get more recognition.

I hope he stays and we go up of course. If we don't get promotion i can understand where he is coming from if he leaves.
Then lets start booing now just in case.

I think one of the big teams will nick him.

I hope not but he will be on a free, right up Arsenal's alley!

It was a reasonable thing to say...

How many other players in his position would have stayed?

Roberto Verde is o.k by me!

Great player who made one mistake for England so the press treated him like he had tried to arse-rape the Queen.

He has remained loyal and yes he could sign a new contract at championship wages but that would go beyond loyalty and into stupidity. He is a premiership quality keeper and should be earning premiership quality money. For his own and his families sakes I would not begrudge him moving on if we don't get promoted.

The fact is that Green is a professional and needs to consider the financial wellbeing of his family and himself.

He owes us nothing and has always done his best for us. I would like him to stay if he maintains his current form [ goalkeepers keep their highest level of form for many seasons longer than outfielders, witness Freidel ] but if he has a better offer elsewhere good luck to him.

Erm, Green did not push for a wage increase one year into a new contract. He was promised one by Ducks Beret and that promise was broken.

It may well have been broken because we were skint all of a sudden, or just because Ducks Beret had a habit of lying and breaking promises, but that's all largely irrelevant for the purposes of this post.

We signed him for 2 million and he has given us 6 years of good service without any bad attitude as far as I am aware.

He certainly is not overrated by West ham fans, he is a very good keeper who if we had someone of less ability than him we would be play offs at best at this moment.

I would be gutted if he goes at the end of the season but with the freedom of contract he is entitled to. As long as he does not go to Spurs (which is a worry) then I wish him the best of luck.

Re: "I wouldn't want to do it [the Championship] again": Green off unless we're promoted...
Green could have gone to where? Who put a bid in for him?

He had one year left on his contract and could've been signed on the cheap yet nobody bid. His contract is up this year I think which means he could have signed with another club now, but nobody's tried to sign him.

Green's loyalty made him push for a wage increase a year into a five year deal then when it was refused, he refused every other extension offer.

There's things I like about him, like he doesn't drive a Bentley and he stays in tents at festivals, but he isn't loyal and he is overrated by West Ham fans.

Capitol,

For me Green is better than Ludo was.

Ludo was amazing the first couple of seasons but the rest of the time he was either brilliant or dodgy as fuck.
When he did make a mistake they were real clangers and his kicking towards the end was suspect. A great goalie and servant though but just think Green is a better all round keeper.

And the problem is? Rob Green has been one of the few positives over the past few seasons. He stayed with us this year when he could have gone had he wished and I have nothing but good to say for the bloke. If anyone didn't deserve the horrible luck he had in the World Cup last year, it was him. We'll get promoted and he'll be with us next year so no issues with this at all.

He owes us nothing. Green has been largely excellent for West Ham and very consistent.

If he goes at the end of the season then good luck to him and I hope he gets his England place back but I would love it if he stayed.

I also know that Green was looking for a move away in the summer but nothing suitable came up on the back of a poor season.

Great to see him back to his very best this time around.
