Hello all was just doing some research on my ppi claim i had taken out.I stupidly went through one of those ppi companies and now realise i should have just claimed it directly from the actual loan company.So was just wondering is there any time limit or a way i can cancel the claim company and just appeal myself?

Do you have any practical knowledge of how PPI was mis-sold and therefore why so many claims have been upheld?
It wasn't simply a case of people signing up to something and then deciding they didn't need it, it was often unscrupulous loan companies dishonestly and fraudulently 'selling' insurance that didn't even cover the customer.
I know a little bit about it as my ex used to work for the Financial Ombudsman Service adjudicating mis-sold PPI claims. A common example of mis-sold PPI was when self employed people were specifically told that they would be covered if they were ever out of work. They signed up to it in good faith. When they were out of work and went to claim, they realised that had been lied to and weren't covered. These people had been upfront about the circs and the people selling them the PPI deliberately deceived them.
Now you could argue more fool them, but then you are essentially condoning a totally dishonest and morally corrupt practice. Ask yourself why so many claims have been upheld!
I was once mis sold a loan as I was given incorrect advice. I was stupid enough to take that advice on good faith from a total cunt who was on commission for selling me the loan. I appealed the decision and it was upheld as I could prove that I had been lied to. It was nothing to do with trying to pull a fast one and get something for nothing, I was genuinely wronged. Admittedly I learnt a valuable lesson in the process.

I've wondered if could claim for the mis-selling of life cover on my fucking useless endowment mortgage? I was told I would need this to qualify for the mortgage, it's about £10 per month and had to get it from Lloyds. The endowment has 6 months to go and I'm going to be £15,000 down, less around £3,500 I got back for them mis-selling me the endowment.

cba reading the whole thread but to the OP all you need to do is tell your bank not to send any correspondence to your claims management company. I worked for the financial ombudsman service and claimed back my own ppi.
also your refund is calculated as all the ppi you have paid plus 8% interest from the date you made the first payment up until the date of settlement

experian only go back 6 years for £2,and banks try and fob you off for anything past that

You could give them a call. They should be able to provide you with your old card number. Or as marty has suggested, use experien. They usually do a free months trail.
Will save any hold up once you get the letters sent off.

Experian is a credit agency who will give you your previous credit agreements. you will have to pay a couple of quid for the info Pee Wee.

i`ve had so many loans and credit cards,mortgages etc i`ve just passed it over to a firm,i`ve no idea what i did last week let alone 15 years ago
a lot of ppi is hidden and you wouldn`t even know you have it

i'm pretty sure i have paid ppi over the years but won't have the details - how do i find out who to claim from - is there a way of finding out where I have paid it and who to claim from?

Yes, this was my basis for a claim against Halifax for my mortgage 19 years ago. Got a cheque for £6800, this would have been more but I had already been paid £1800 when on long term sick

This is a general piece of info for anybody who has a BARCLAYS overdraft.
I found out that they added PPI to my overdraft only they called it Overdraft Protection and it was added automatically.
Only found out it was PPI when closing the account and rang up to ask them what it was for.
Claim upheld and now £3,000 richer.

I've done that too. Been sacked from HSBC but there might be some Legs in my Barclays claim. Had to fill out a couple of forms.
