the thing that "proves" to me there is no hell and no judgement day is this... Those in the know, The priests and ayotollahs... touch kids and support hatred and violence, they must be fucking sure its all bollocks to carry on like that.
Maybe its worth going through sunday school, RE GCSE and even a degree in theology, then carry on to proper nutjob uni and learn the truth.

the only thing of certainty is that at least 60% of all religious people are going to have backed the wrong horse.

Yes we will Jana, and when your consciousness fails and the light dims in your eye and you depart from this mortal coil, the only thing you will experience is your bladder and bowels opening one last time and your existence will be over in and undignified mess.

There is no paradise afterward, no virgins shall await you for a good rogering.

The lights go off and its all over.

what worries me is that our judiciary swear before god and then say they need hard evidence to decide on someones guilt or innocence

I dont need proof that it doesnt exist I need proof that it does,

That's my point of view as well. It's something that to my mind makes no sense and to which no human being, present or historic, has ever provided convincing supporting evidence. And I don't consider religious people being happier or non-believers converting en masse as being evidence.

I dont need proof that it doesnt exist I need proof that it does, or at least some proof that its a faint possibility.
If i said I could fly , I would be branded a nutter, but no one can prove I can't, just that I choose not to. Throw me out a window and if i dont fly, it still doesn't prove I can't , just that I chose to hit the floor.

I'd go along to a point in the idea that some RE is taught to show what other cultures believe. BUT there has to be a proviso, that they are told from day one , these beliefs have no basis in fact. There is no scientific proof whatsoever that it is true, but that the basic moral values can make you a better ( friendlier) person. Love thy neighbour was not only the funniest show in the 70s , its a good basis to live your life by....... as long as your neighbour doesnt take the piss.

I know it can seem like splitting hairs but its not.

I believe there is NO God, I also believe that God can never be proven and will remain Unprovable

Therefore I can hold an Atheist belief and Agnostic belief at the same time.

You may believe in a God but feel that it is unproven and unprovable, you hold both a theistic belief and an agnostic belief.

Not that I am suggesting you did it, but I hate it when people use the word Agnostic to mean that a person is undecided either way on the subject, because that is not agnosticism.

WHOicidal Maniac.

Having had another reread of what I originally wrote, it was overly flippant, and wasn't put particularly well. To call all possible interpretations of agnosticism "faith free" is inaccurate, but I still hold it's a middle ground to opposing claims of absolute, provable knowledge.

Was the problem that sister number 1 hadn't shared the bottle of wine with anyone? If so, that's greed and therefore clearly she is going to BURN IN HELL.

Hope that helps.

No, no more than I'd suggest all people who are religious are inherently dishonest.

WHOicidal Maniac.
Either I didn't put that very well, or you're splitting a very fine hair. It's not "you dont know either way", but "It means "Without knowledge""? You'll have to run that one by me again, as from here it just looks like semantics. I'm aware of the meaning, and origin of the word Agnostic, and I'd say in common usage it serves well as a middle ground term between a claim to an absolute knowledge of the existence/non-existence of a God. As, even by your own definition it means "without knowledge".

Agnosticism does not mean that "you dont know either way", its not a middle ground.

Agnosticism means that you believe that a God is either unproven or unprovable. It means "Without knowledge" So you can believe in a God or deny the existence of God an remain "Agnostic"

That's what makes our great country so great... it enables my nutty sister to spout her ramblings on teh rest of us trying to live our normal lives... I mean only last week she told my sister number 1 that she would go to hell as she had a bottle of wine to herself one night...

I might go and slit a Goats throat I think.........

See the difference is Fifth I had a conversation with my daughter just like my father did with me... she asked me whether I believed in God... I told her that no I did not as that is what I believed... I said to her that I would never ever force her into anything and that she would have to make her own mind up... she first said that she belived in god (she was about 5 years old) ... i said that was fine and I had no problem what so ever with that.... a couple of years ago we got on the conversation of it again and she told me that she felt it was a crock of shit... again I said I was fine with that... she will work it for herself without throwing everything in her face....

That's how we roll....

Your post clearly questions how appropriate it is to being a child up as religious. My point was simply that my eldest is a lovely kid who's doing very well. Therefore, him being brought up in this manner is clearly doing him no harm. That is my point.

And I do underpin how I bring up my kids with religious teachings in relation to how they treat each other and other people so their manners are as a result explicitly of such teachings. You have taught your child in a different manner - good for you.

You were the one having a pop at me, not the other way around.

But again, you're more than welcome to do so. It's a free country (and messageboard).

Fifth…. It came across as the reason your son was courteous and polite was because of his religion (which he had NO choice in) … I said that’s bollocks basically…. As there are plenty of polite and courteous kids who are not religious… hell I bet even you kid would be polite and courteous without going to religious school…. Whad’ya reckon???
