npower CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY 4 MARCH 2012 KICK-OFF: 12.45PM
• The Hammers go into Sunday's game on four-match unbeaten run, having won two and drawn two since being defeated at Ipswich Town on 31 January. That run includes the fantastic 4-1 win at Blackpool on their last game away from the Boleyn Ground, which was one of three consecutive games they were reduced to ten men..
• The home side will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing a dramatic Carling Cup final to Liverpool on penalties last time out..In the npower Championship, the Bluebirds have been on an indifferent run of form with just one win in five. Their most-recent league encounter ended in a 3-0 defeat at Ipswich Town, with their last home game concluding in a 3-1 win against Peterborough United.
TEAM NEWS CARDIFF
• Cardiff City had no less than eight players away on international duty this week and will be hoping all have returned in good shape. • Mackay confirmed that nobody has suffered any ill-effects from the 120 minute marathon against Liverpool, although Stephen McPhail will definitely miss the game through illness.
WEST HAM
• Skipper Kevin Nolan returns following his three-game ban for being sent-off against Millwall, while Taylor serves the final game of his three-match ban for being red carded against Southampton on Valentine's Day. • Midfielder Papa Bouba Diop and right-back Guy Demel are West Ham United's only major injury doubts. Winston Reid's fitness will be assessed after coming off at half-time in New Zealand's home game with Jamaica.
SKY BET
• CARDIFF 7/5 • Draw 12/5 • WEST HAM 9/5
REFEREE
• Sunday's referee is Chris Foy. It will be Foy's first time in charge of a Hammers game this season.
• Foy has been a Barclays Premier League referee since 2001.

Sir Alf
Concerned as I share your thoughts about Collison still do not think his display yesterday was as bad as some have made out , but , not the player I saw in a few games before his injury.
When you see players like Wilshire ( 2 years his Junior ? ) no comparison IMO ( Could be wrong on Wilshire's age )
Roll on Watford and another 3 points.

I thought Collison looked alright yesterday, he seems to be slowly getting some form back.

God Save The Queen and Engerlund during the final few minutes, plus Is There A Fire Drill were all good moments.

From what I've seen in matches & on here I'd prefer Lansbury to Collison right now...
Superior in all departrments...
Collison's never been the same since his knee injury...sad to say...

Collison and Lansbury are the players most at risk for a starting place next game. How long do we wait for Collison to develop? I cannot see it happening now unfortunately. Admittedly, he is more comfortable in a central role but he lacks aggression, fails to compete, is easily brushed aside and is always off the pace of games. His ability to score a few goals has also deserted him. Perhaps in a pass and move style team with more mobile players around him he would look better but I think the word that sums him up now at this level is "mediocre". Hope he can still move up a level but have real doubts now.

It was a good result away to a team who have already beaten us and who wont lose at home to many. We got the tactics right. And we are second with a game in hand on the leaders and four points clear of thrid. Not a bad position to be in.

I like to see us create our chances with attacking skill aometimes rather than simply exploiting the gaps that they create by attacking us.
we had enough chances to win 5-0.but I just cant get the type of satisfaction from our style of performance that I desire

Hugh.
You made a contrast between playing to win, and playing not to lose, suggesting we did the latter, as if it wasn't a positive attacking performance.
If we'd finished our chances better, we would have tonked them.

I am happy that we won. I was simply explaining our methods of winning

Hugh Monteith 11:46 Sun Mar 4 Soooooo.....we achieved our primary goal of winning, and the problem is where?

our primary goal needs to be to win, not too soak up pressure and have a shot when their goal is in view, but to put the opposition under pressure

Er, surely every match our primary goal is not to lose?

Another match where our primary goal was to not lose. Players that are best at going forward in an attacking unit, rather than to always stay between our goal and the ball, will continue to look poor and perform poorly.

I meant as a collective force regarding the midfield.... out of the games I have seen this season that was the best we have passed it around in midfield and Jack was a part of that... but keep going fella...
