Sam Allardyce
I was happy with his appointment and I still believe he is the perfect candidate to keep us in the Premier League should we be promoted.

However his innate conservatism just isn't what's suited to this division. We have the best players in this division and the way we play just doesn't fit to their technical superiority over the opposition.

This problem has lasted all season, yet the constant early second-half subbing of one striker off for another really shows the manager doesn't quite understand what his best team is. Surely Maynard coming on for Cole would have been a better substitution in a reversed team, where his pace could have worked against tired defenders.

There has been a complete lack of pace all season and this has made it very difficult to break teams down. Someone like Ravel Morrison would surely offer more in an attacking sense than Jack Collison, who baffles me with his constant selection.

I believe we will finish 2nd this season, which intruigingly is where Gold and Sullivan's teams finish on their way back up.

However this clearly is just not good enough with the players at our disposal and the wage bill this has incurred. This team of players should be topping the division by a distance come the season's end.

Faubert has improved yet doesn't create and definitely doesn't score enough goals. Taylor's form has really dipped and he can't break down defences.

In a fully-fit side, I believe we should play Vaz Te at left wing and Morrison on the right. Vaz Te showed against Doncaster great glimpses of potential and that he is probably our best player for running at defences.

We have a good enough defence to contain a few mavericks in our team, such as Morrison, rather than taking the more conservative option with someone like Collison.

Taylor would offer great support from the back and dangerous crosses and set-pieces. McCartney's form has been good yet Vaz Te and Taylor would surely better assist us in scoring goals.

My team would be;

Green
O'Brien Tomkins Faye Taylor
Noble Diop
Nolan
Morrison Maynard Vaz Te

It's just strange to see a team full of technically very gifted players for this level seeming so unconfident in their own technical ability.

They clearly haven't been coached much on their passing on the ground this season and I fully believe that we would have won this division convincingly had we trained them that way and hence enabled that belief.

YOU *&^%$?

Re: Sam Allardyce
whats all this doom and gloom for? we are unbeaten in 9 games

we are true fighters - Southampton and Reading are boxers - they look prettier but they have weak chins - by the end of the season both will be behind us because by the last round we can tough it out and they cant ... they will be flat on their backs

Re: Sam Allardyce
Sadly, as I have pointed out before, it is our defending that has let us down once again.

I'd love us to have nicked games 1-0.

We need to get back to keeping clean sheets.

Re: Sam Allardyce
but you can hardly blame the fat controller if he decides to play one up front and nick a 1-0 can you? I'm getting extremely depressed about the whole thing.

not surprised you are getting depressed you clown

I'm starting to make myself ill getting drawn into these debates but just read some of the posts below and then look at today when he did play two up front And did those two not miss a couple of guilt edge chances? The reserve striker pairing brought on at half-time missed two sitters too. I've long since given up trying to understand what the answer is but you can hardly blame the fat controller if he decides to play one up front and nick a 1-0 can you? I'm getting extremely depressed about the whole thing.

Re: Sam Allardyce
Out with the goodly wife tonight, saw that One Man, Two Guvnors…wasn’t too bad at all, for any interested in that stuff.

Anyway…

This has been done to death…but then by my count done to death since 2009/10.

The reason others have been consistent, or on a good runs of form, is constant team selection and changeable tatics. No manager should be still trying to figure out his best side come March, or continuing to flog a dead horse tactics wise. Cause it worked start of the season, don’t mean it’ll work in the home stretch.

I’m fucking sick of people slating our strikers…one up front aint ever worked…we need two up front and fucking now. If you insist on keeping Nolan in, then he’s best stuff has always been living off knock downs, he aint got the pace to support one up front. If Cole is deemed our knock down target, then fucking give him some movement up there so he can win a header.

We aint had a front two pairing in how fucking long? Please do let me know, I’ve forgotten what two strikers looks like…cause our striker selection seems to be done off per match straw selection. And as said again and again, if 80% of their chances come from a ball hoofed in - then good luck and reap what you sow.

Noble has his better games when the midfield is less condensed…so fucking bin this 5 flat footed midfield approach, please.

It aint fucking quantum physics, and I’m tired of hearing that the Manager has given the same spiel post match…and yet turns up the next week with 2-3 changes and exactly the same tactics, having learnt fucking nothing. These boring don’t lose hit on the counter ways worked for us early…but they aint doing nothing now. Send em out to have a proper crack please Fat Sam.

I aint throwing Sam out with the bath water yet…but he has lost many since signing a few and not given a proper chance.

People also slag off our home support, yet for mine…its only down to the fact we have so many that know what’s happening, that want the changes made…but who also know they wont fucking happen. Someone on here used the term ‘jaded’ the other post boro, dead on. The unease of seeing and knowing it, has all on edge…with luck it’ll change up next match, but I wont hold my breath on it.

Rant over…night all,

Re: Sam Allardyce
who knows, maybe Allardyce knows he has to change the teams tactics and set up ,but maybe would rather. "cut off his nose to spite his face"...than prove he got it wrong the last few home games,..just a thought

Re: Sam Allardyce
BMU - I'd say he needs to go whether we go up or not.

Hammer in Thailand

We struggle because teams play 5 in midfield against us and our tactics to deal with that is the negative attitude of doing like for like and also playing 5 in midfeild, this is a big reason why so many games at home have been boring.

Re: Sam Allardyce
the simple fact is if Allardyce does not secure promotion at the first attempt, he will be fired at the end of the season.

Frankly only has himself to blame for some quite bewildering tactics at home which, in just a handful of matches has seen West Ham go from promotion certainties to play off also rans and little sign that he has the wherewithal to turn this shambles around
