The last episode was too dramatic. It got the balance wrong between pathos and cheese.
The earlier episodes in the series were good and they had funny moments along with the dramatic moments. The final episode was a bit too full one with the drama.

Just watched the last episode of this. I quite liked the first few.
However this was beyond awful. One of the worst 30 minutes of television ever.

Just watched the final episode. As a kid I was dragged along to see my mums mum in an institution it was the early seventies .As a kid it scared the shit out of me it was a disturbing place to spend any time.
I think Derek is a brilliant and essential viewing,I'm not sure if it stirs up a few old scary memories deep inside of me.
But I find it funny sad and heartwarming all at the same time.

I 100% agree with what you said and I think the martyrs are the worst problem in care homes and places like that. I know exactly who you are talking about.
But her character isn't supposed to be one of those people. She's a cypher for the good guys that work in those places.
That said the martyrs are horrible people. I hate them.

Just caught up with the last episode and thought it was a great end to a good series.
To be honest though, I can't really see the need for a second series. Kev might get his arse together and end up doing something with his life, but imgine it will be more of the same.

Thought it was superb. The last episode was always gonna be like that, Gervais knew he'd do that to get a 2nd series, which he did.
