A club legend becoming manager
|
|
I have been reflecting on the two various sides of the shout for Di Canio. Is it because we are just fed up of Sam, or do we genuinely think he will take us forward?
Personally I am on the fence and happy to back Sam if he gets us promoted in the first 2 seasons as for all the various bollocks around 'we must bounce straight back' sound a bit jingoistic and given the crap he inherited I think 2 seasons would be a reasonable timeframe.
I don't think experience is the issue for Di Canio either, Dalgleish won the league as a rookie manager and the managers of Swansea, Norwich and Reading aren't exactly over experienced yet show tactical nous.
All I know is that there are 2 precedents, Bonzo and Brooking, club legends that turned to the management seat and succeeded, so why not Di Canio when big sam takes the long walk.

I'd prefer a couple of extra brilliant midfielders and a striker who can score goals.

Di Canio is no where near ready to take over as our manager, although the early signs are very good as he's doing a good job at Swindon.
Only potential issue with Di Canio is that he's likely to be involved in a fair amount of arguments, and rucks with players which has been noted most recently with Tehoue who's only on loan, then there was the incident with their striker (not sure on his name) after the game they had a massive row then the player refused to go into the dressing room etc.
We should have gone for Di Matteo, prior to Allardyce.
Although I do want Allardyce out, I'm struggling with replacements.

Allardyce either does or doesn't make a comment that insinuates that he disagrees with the West Ham fans and this website goes into meltdown with posts about how the club has become a soap opera etc etc.
Solution:- DiCanio for manager.
I refrain from commenting definitively on matters where there cannot be certainty. Bear that in mind when I say, 'If given the West Ham job, he wouldn't last 6 months'.

The bloke would lift the mood for sure, I would hate it if it turned out to be a nightmare for him though. TBH he's got into football and the right level and has shown he can motivate a team. We should get him in before another club does.

i dont think there's a chance of Paolo getting the job as he's not a yes man. he'd also be too close to the fans and that would make life uncomfortable for Gold & Sullivan, especially if Paolo wanted to strengthen the squad
having an unpopular manager probably suits Sullivan at the moment

OK, so if we accept that a club has momentum following a good manger why do we not accept it has momentum with a bad one?
Sam needs 2 seasons to sort this dross out

I would love Di Canio to be our manager.
Whether or not at this stage he is a better manager than Allardyce, i'm not so sure.

What matters is whether the man can manage a football club. If he happens to be a past legend of that club, so much the better, but it's a bonus, that's all.

Dalglish inherited Fagans team and didnt actually have to manage them. He just said to carry on as normal.

Dalgleish won the league as a rookie manager
Liverpool then were a bit better than us now.

Brooking was never a manager, a little run where he had no of the pressure of management (as he admitted himself) and Bonds was pretty much a failure.......
