Re: the Big Match (revisited)
This show was actually screened on the Saturday evening, not Sunday lunchtime as we all seem to remember it.

I'd forgotten this but it swapped with MOTD for the Saturday night slot for a few alternating seasons starting in 1980 (according to wiki).

Watched the Stoke game last week. Quite suprised that the team was boo'd off after a 1-1 draw.

I thought that only happened post 1996.

Have a hazy memory from the 70's of ITV's programming being

Thunderbirds
Weekend World (or dinner time as my old man used to call it)
The Persuaders
Police 5
The Big Match
Black Beauty
The golden Shot
Celebrity Squares

Oh and thanks Andy,

I enjoyed watching that. Does anyone think the ref and lino would deem the handball by Mickey Thomas as accidental these days?

Sometimes would have been, but Sunday always seemed to be a low-availability day.

Observations.

Strange to see the fenced in fans, the short shorts, the goalie picking up back passes, the blasting of a free kick through the wall and the simple, unsophisticated tactics used back then.
