Terrible defending & yes just like "The West Ham Way"

ie Fannying about with the ball at the back, making unnecessary smart-arse passes instead of playing it safe with the big hoof upfield

I don't mind us playing "The West Ham Way" so long as its in the last 3rd!

Perhaps the players &/or BFS have been listening to too much crap from our deluded fans!

In a nutshell. OM is saying the same I think?

By caving in to play a more expansive or different style, with a squad or players not suited to it, he traded results for fan appeasement and since them at UP it has cost us, He tried it first at home against Ipswich and then reverted to the direct style again. He's tried it again in the last 2 months and it has seen us achieve a poor set of results, He did not recruit a squad to play much differently so was "snared or hoisted by his own petard" or whatever that saying is :-(

we have good defence players but a terrible defence coach, why wally downes is still here is a mystery to me .

Agree with that, it doesn't help when you have got midfielders running 10 yards to take the ball off a defenders toes to play a pass the defender could of made.

Giving the ball away in their own half isn't about trying to play the west ham way and failing, this happened because of piss poor judgement, and a lack of concentration. Players need to make themselves available always when we are in posession with good movement whilst being aware of the opposition postioning. Pass and move.

it shouldn't be rocket science for these players to get the ball across the halfway line with the ball at our feet, and the answer isnt to always hit it long from the back and lose posession 50% of the time.

Nothing has happened to our defence, they have been brilliant all season. However when the midfield in front of them offers NO decent help defensively, as I have stated previously whilst we have got away with it up to recently it was always going to catch up on us.


Our defence look tired to be honest and with how hard they have worked this season who can blame them?

What happened to our defence?

Over the season, on a number of occasions we have been too conservative at home, and picked up draws, when if we'd gone for it more, those draws would've been wins.

In the last couple games, we have pretty much HAD to win - that situation leads to edgy, nervous performances, which in turn leads to errors, which in turn led to Birmingham City netting 3 goals against us yesterday.

Yeah the West Ham way is all about "Fucking around with it at the back" and that's why we've gone from 1st with a game in hand to 3rd. Sam got us top playing long ball, decided to change it and that's why we've been shit.

Reading got two, and Birmingham got one yesterday.

Ironic indeed, fucking about with the ball at the back has cost us, not only that though.
We seem to have these moments in games lately when we just switch off for a minute or 5 & teams are scoring 2 or 3 goals as a result, which is a bit odd imho.

Yes I'm saying we've made a lot of costly errors in those games (more than normal) & that the oppo's finishing has been unusualy clinical too.
I just wish our was as clinical.

Tompkins should be playing CB and for that reason alone BFS has shown himself to be a useless manager.

Obviously other teams make errors, but in those 2 games in particular we made plenty at crucial times & it has cost us as everything has flown into our goal as a result, which is not always the case.
