So, play offs it is in all probability
|
|
One thing's for sure. The club shouldn't can Allardyce even if we don't go up through the play offs. Yes, the home form has been a worry and the collapse in form has been hard to swallow but chopping and changing the manager every season is not the answer.
Allardyce is a decent manager and a third place finish isn't embarrassing given the mess he inherited from the two clowns who preceded him.

Im not so sure Chemsford. Lard Arse Samuel does not seem to like playing young uns. Hall and Montano deserved more chances IMO but we shall see.

bilbo, the parachute payment is paid over 4 years with the payment being 16 million for each of the first two . So we don't lose the parachute payment next season.

Bottom line is we need to go up at all costs, purely for the financial benefit. Another season in the Championship and we lose the parachute payment. But its West Ham, so if we do go up it will be the hard way...through the play offs.

Although i would love us to go up this season i do wonder if we would be better equipped to stay up if we stayed down for another season. The reason being , the amount of youngsters that we've got coming through who could get a decent run if we stayed down for another season. Its easier to blood the youngsters in this league than in a team that could well be struggling in the premiership.
I understand the financial problems but despite what some think of G and S i think they're clever enough to give the manager their backing for at least another season without entering into a massive firesale of players. Yes we'll probably lose Green and Faubert but with at least four youngsters pushing for squad places next season and a replacement keeper already signed I'm pretty confident that the squad can cope with losing one or two players without being weakened that much.
Don't get me wrong id love to see us promoted this season i just don't think its armageddon if we don't go up this season. If we don't next season , then that could be another story.

If Bolton or Blackburn or both are relegated we will be promoted whether automatically or via the play offs - its football irony.
BFS will probably be hoping he can pass the Chicken mob on the way up.
Basic fact is we have beaten all of the sides in the mix for the play offs most of them away from home Blackpool, Boro, Brighton, Hull, Leicester, Cardiff so hold no fear going into that situation.

I'd love a day out at Wembley. It would be immense if we went up through the play offs.

A few facts were arguing about on here,
1. Yes Sam did inherit a mess FACT
2. Still had a good team and was given funds to strengthen FACT
3. Reading have been on an unhuman run FACT
We will not be in top two with most amount of points., like relegeted with 42 is a probable
Were still are forgeting fact 4!!
We will undoubtedly be the best team in the play offs and hard to beat away, and if you look at it, hard to beat at home as well, knowone will want to play us in the play off or Wembley
Wembley it is then... See you all there

considering they're fucking unstoppable at the moment, with only four games remaining, and with a very realistic chance of winning the league, i would call 2 defeats a blip.

''There form can't continue for too much longer and they are definitely due a blip''
What nonsense. They are due a blip beccause you say so? IF however they don't win at Saints and Brum please don't take any credit as they are very tough away games, losing at these places is not a 'blip' most sides lose there.

Good post Deano...
There's still faint hope...
But that means we need to win all our games...which is unlikely based on our performances...
Had we beaten Brum...those 2 extra points would have made it more possible...
REading got a lucky deflection and a Penalty save to a poor penalty...so the luck is definitely with them...

It doesnt help matters that 3/4 of the playing staff dont know for sure if they will still be here next season

It's still not quite over yet, Reading have the two toughest away games possible in this league (by stats). Between Southampton and Birmingham they have lost just 3 games out of 42 home games. The only downside is that Reading also have an away record comparable to ours having also won 12.
There form can't continue for too much longer and they are definitely due a blip. Southampton are not within our reach due to their superior goal difference being worth an extra point. Though they also have a tough run in - Reading (h), and Peterboro and Middlesboro (a) but would have to lose two and draw one of those. Definite possibility but for a team that have a two year winning habit/mentality it would be unlikely for them to fall apart.
If Southampton beat Reading on Friday and we beat Brighton then it will go to the final two games and I honestly don't think Birmingham will lose to Reading at home.
I still have (probably very misguided and overly optimistic) hope.

A mess would of been like Birmingham, selling their best players last summer then selling their next best during the winter window. Having had a good run in Europe with a limited squad Hughton has achieved is a miracle.Played more games than any other team in the top two divisions and still with a great chance of promotion. They should be in the relagation fight. Like others have said with the squad BFS has Upton Park should be impregnable, teams don't fear coming here.Brighton fans think they are going to win on saturday.Thats embarrassing and sums Alladyce up.His negative tactics and playing so many players out of position and dropping players when they are on form is tantamount to treason.Even the clueless Grant could of got us this far and thats saying something.I don't like the arrogant northern git,he his northern no matter what he thinks, wanker. I said it all season,we will still go up.Then god knows what will happen.I even think we will smash Brighton we're meeting them at the right time, they are tired and will not make the play offs now. Our best players Noble,Green and Tomkins play for the club and supporters not Alladyce.I feel sorry for them especially Tomkins, can you imagine John Terry playing at right back or center midfield,no.So why play your best player there? Wembley here we come.I wish Alladyce could read this rant then he would know why Newcastle fans suggested "you don't know what your doing".

Not probably, I would say almost a certainty. Only mathematically we have a chance.
Tex sums it up well as does Swindon. There are a multitude of factors but the key ones are teh squad imbalance in midfield (lack of mobility existed and he recruited players that did not alter that) and his one dimensional or plan A only approach which is good at grinding out wins or playing away but not suited to stretching teams and putting them to the sword at home. Sam is the best manager to hire if you recently got into the Premiership and are on a budget and want to survive. Thats his thing. The opposite of Warnock who you hire to get you out of the Championship only :-)
better to rename this thread as "So its another season in the Championship probably" I do not rate the team in a knock out scenario.

I wish it was the case that we will be better for it next season but a lot of fans won't put up with another season under Allardyce. Our best chance of promotion was this season. It will be harder next season. Wolves will get themselves a decent manager and be up there, as will Leeds under Warnock. If Leicester don't sneak through this season they will be up there next. Bolton under Coyle or QPR under Huges will be forces. Ipswich will be much better.
We will have cuts to the wage bill. Green will have to be replaced, either Tomkins or Noble or maybe both will be sold.
If people think we will storm the championship next season then they are in for a big shock.
Makes me laugh when they say Allardyce inherited a mess. I am sure any manager in the championship would of been happy to take over a squad with the likes of Green, Tomkins, Reid, Noble, Collison, Faubert and Cole, plus be given the money to bring in Nolan, Taylor, Baldock, Maynard and Vaz Te for large transfer fees for this level.

The question to ask is...
Would either Zola or Grant have won Automatic Promotion...
I sincerely doubt it...
My biggest problem with BFTDSC ...is we were Top until recent run of poor form ...and we never had any really good home form...
The squad is capable in my opinion...the inability to field the right players...use the best tactics and motivate the squad...are down completely to Allardyce...
A very disappointing end to a promising season...
We could still do it via Playoffs...but I don't believe BFTDSC has it in him to get us through...
Hope I'm wrong...

Whatever happens we got to give Fat Sam at least a chance to build a team over 2 years, whatever the futile argument over style
Being based in Nottingham i remember his management of Notts County 15 or so years ago - he came in too late to save them from relegation, but the next year they were a tour de force and stormed the old 4th Division and made waves in the old 3rd Division too. He then left them for Bolton and they never recovered. They sank like a stone. I often think County would have been where Bolton are now had he stayed
The point being ... no Manager deserves a sack when they have reached around 87 points in this brutal tough league. Reading are a fluke that means West Ham will get the highest points total without automatic promotion - it's just our bad luck, like having 42 points and being relegated.
But even if we fail in the next 4 or 7 games it will make us stronger. Our character and toughness and determination are far more evident than ever before ...BFS just needs more time to galvanise this club and we will storm this Division next season - and be stronger in the Premier as a result.
