Because it my dream to set up an institute that studies waves using just fat people, baths and hoists.

Re: 8.9 Magnitude Eartquake Hits Indonesia
Why not just lump them all in together and say an earthquake has caused a big wave??

Everyone's a winner....

It was all on an episode of "Horizon" I think. Except I got bored and started illustrating it with fat people and baths.

That's quite a picture

Re: 8.9 Magnitude Eartquake Hits Indonesia
They couldn't just jump into the bath. That would be a surface wave. Like you get when the glacier falls into the sea. These are the biggest waves of all (not as powerful as tidal waves though)

Re: 8.9 Magnitude Eartquake Hits Indonesia
If a fat person had a bath at floor level filled to the brim and a hoist they could recreate tidal wave. If the hoist wrenched them from the bath at high speed a tidal wave would engulf the bathroom floor.

We call them tidal waves because they look exactly like the tide coming in and going out. The japanese call them "harbour waves-Tsunami". These are self reinforcing waves that you get in harbours. They look nothing like tidal waves and are produced totally differently. Fat people can produce Tsunami in their bath by moving backward and forward in time with the water.

Calling them Tsunami is political correctness gone mad. Our description is much better.

Re: 8.9 Magnitude Eartquake Hits Indonesia
How can they be tidal waves if they're not generated by tidal forces?

p.s. I don't give a fuck what the tabloids tell people to call them and then the people duly oblige like the uneducated, just-want-to-be-seen-as-part-of-the-popular-movement-of-the-day bilge they are.

Tsunamis are tsunamis. Tidal waves are tidal waves. How about I call you a Spurs or Millwall fan on account of, well you follow a football team, and they're both football teams so that makes me right and you wrong.

It's wrong. 8.9 is a massive earthquake. A 10cm tsunami? Boooooooo.

That's like having a 17 inch penis and fucking Lorraine kelly.

Re: 8.9 Magnitude Eartquake Hits Indonesia

The tsunami has hit. 10cm high.

BOOOOOOOO. Worst tsunami ever.

Am I the only one that wanted a massive tsunami that killed no one or destroyed nothing. Is that too much to ask?

Re: 8.9 Magnitude Eartquake Hits Indonesia
They're tidal waves by the way not Tsunami's Tidal waves don't look anything like Tsunami's calling tidal waves Tsunami's is pretentious.

All this "they were tougher in all the old day's" business is a load of old bollocks!
Some people can handle grotty stuff and others can't
In the old days some would have taken counceling if it had been available to them at the time and some wouldn't have.

Every generation likes to sneer at the next from what I can see

Re: 8.9 Magnitude Eartquake Hits Indonesia
Apparently this was a tippy-tappy, side-to-side quake as opposed to the 2004 one that was a lump-it-high "hoofer", so everybody expects today's tsunami to be slow & low with no real effective end result.

Phuket airport's been shut, though, which could fuck Songkhran for a few people.

My mother in law was in a dentists chair when a large earthquake struck a few years ago, the nurse became so hysterical the dentist had to give her a slap, old fashioned film style. True story.
