Tesco v Sainsburys
Full scale war locally - Tesco got permission for a supermarket site but really the location is crap and there's nothing in it for the community

Since then, Sainsbury have secured outline for a great site in a better location, together with numerous additional benefits for the community etc which Tesco never offered or even considered

Tesco are now coming the raw prawn, kicking off in the press about how they'll build their store anyway, and they'll 'complain and complain until they're sick' about Sainsbury outflanking them, to try and stop the Sainsbury development

Tesco just don't get it do they? They think they are just having a 'sales blip' in recent times, but actually people are heartily sick of their 1980s style agression and 'me first' approach to everything - hence the mass exodus away from Tesco to the 'softer' supermarkets who have realised that PEOPLE matter as much as profits

No affinity either way personally, but if I had to pick one of these guys for 200 local people to work for, it sure as hell wouldn't be Tesco...

I've just been up Tesco.

I purchased chicken kievs, an ocean pie, a steak & kidney pukka pie, haddock fishcakes, chilli rice, scotch eggs, milk, and several other items.

Thank you.

Absolutely agree about Lidl. Some good stuff in there but your right, some tat as well. You have to pick and choose what you buy

Wouldn't do my whole shop in there but they are definitely worth a visit for the quality and price of some items.

They also have specials in there Thurs and Mondays so they are the best days to go.

Bought some Garden chairs in there £19.99 each - exactly the same chairs in B&Q were £29.99 each.

yes, Lidls are surprisingly good for fruit, veg, basic cheese and meat - took us by surprise tbh - however you do have to pick and chosse a little. They do seem to sell a lot of tat as well which attracts some serious muppets into the store, sadly

Tesco's demise coincides pretty much with Leahy stepping down - either Clarke and his cronies have missed the mood of the public (and I do think it's partly that) or Leahy (being the canny geezer he is) saw this coming down the tracks and passed the parcel just in time

I think probably Morrisons are about 'in the middle' now for price, quality and service - not considered snobby but certainly a step up from Tesco etc. I'm sure working at Morrisons will have its restrictions as all those jobs do, but the staff in our local Morrisons seem genuinely cheerful and it makes for a better experience.

Re: Tesco v Sainsburys
I've shopped in all of them recently - my observations:

Sainbury's Superstore
Don't know how they keep open, go in there on Wed morning at 11am and there is more staff than customers.
Bought their Tomatoes on 2 seperate occasions there have been rotten ones in the pack (so don't tell me their salad stuff is better)
Good deals on certain beers and Cheese

Tesco Extra
Been there for the £5 off vouchers. Salad stuff OK but top price. Never deals on Cheese. Certainly not the cheapest. Plenty of customers but not overcrowded.

Asda
Salad OK but top price again, deals sometimes and also on Cheese. Shop always busy to overcrowded. There is a perception that Asda is the cheapest but I've foung the none of them shine out on price really it's roudabouts and swings.
They did have a £5 voucher offer but it was so complicated to claim I gave up. When I asked Customer Services about it they were extremely rude. I WILL NOT GO IN THERE AGAIN.

Morrisons
A ver nice store but personally I find them slightly expensive.

Waitrose
Very Expensive but the quality is superior. Basic items (eg Bread, Milk etc) compare pricewise with the rest.

M&S
Never liked them since they used to refuse Credit Cards. Snob shop - and I mean the people running them. "Because it's M&S food" What rubbish.

Note: For quality salad at the cheapest price go to Lidl:
Toms £1.49 per Kg - £2 everywherelse
Cuc 49p each - 80p to £1 everywherelse

You may slag Tesco's but they haven't got 30% for the market for nothing. There results are published on April 18th. It will be interesting to see. Rumour has it that they have took a dive again.

i worked at the dist center at thurrock driving the HGV's to the various stores

In the building there was a few pie charts listing waste, sick days etc and one for length of employment, bit hazy now but from memory 94% did not last a year

I lasted 3 1/2 days

Re: Tesco v Sainsburys
I had dealings with Tesco at a senior level about 20 years back and it was no different then - hoards of twenty something 'managers' all trying to out-hard each other by bulldozing suppliers

So... what we know so far is that in recent times Tesco specialize in treating the staff like shit, treating the customers like shit, and treating each other like shit

And the consumer is deserting them in droves - hard to understand why really...

I'll never give an money to Tesco. All the money just goes offshore to avoid tax.

I've always hated them since I found out that that evil haggard witch Dame (WTF!) Shirley Porter was an owner. Gerrymandering/fine avoiding no-good Tory slag.

How do criminals in this country still get to keep their titles?

In their so called subsidised canteen they charge 22p for a slice of their own bacon and 30p for a spoon full of baked beans.(thats the same as a can)They also charge 1.50 for a macaronni cheese.(its's cheaper to buy it in the store)
All these they advertise to the staff as Tesco produce, would you believe.
It's an absolute crime to be honest,it's a slap in the face to the staff who don't realise what the are getting and think it's actually a good deal.
The food they serve is so high in fats and sugars it should come with a health warning .
It seems that for all their shouting about healthy nutrional food in the store they forget about the staff canteen.
Fat bastards rule in the canteen.

btw I'm going for a full fat bastard English breakfast tomorrow morning Gut Buster special !!!

I'd say anyone who lives above the 3rd floor in a block of flats who can get their shopping delivered to their door isn't lazy, just savvy.

You don't have to work for them ah? Speak to Davies about a foot in the door at Mccay Ds.
