Pardew v Allardyce Manager comparison after 163 in charge
|
One of the other Hammer's sites has done a stat thing on our current manager and fan's favourite Alan Pardew after both have managed our club for 163 games after the Hull game.
Interesting really, as it proves Big Sam has done a good job, especially as most of his games have been in the top flight, unlike Pards

Big Sam: Managed 163, Won: 65, drawn: 41, lost: 57
Pards: Managed: 163, won: 67, drawn: 38, lost: 58

Curbishley refused playing Tevez for as long as he could as well.
I remember a quote from Tevez (while he was sitting on the bench(!) we were losing and the fans were chanting for him) where he says to Curbishley something along the lines of 'Hey, put me on. They call my name!'
Ridiculous when you think back, really. If he hadn't have finally caved in, we'd definitely have got relegated that season.

It's been done to death. But what manager plays Harewood and Mullins instead of Mashcerano and Tevez, Pardew really did need his head examining for that one

3 attempts at Millwall he had
1-0 loss, draw and 4-1 fucking defeat that could easily have been about 8
worst day out I've ever had at football, worst performance the lot

Under Allardyce we've beaten Chelsea and Spurs in the PL. Not Arsenal.
Pardew beat Arsenal twice I think, Spurs but I don't think Chelsea. But he only had a 1.5 of a season while Sam is on 2.5 roughly.

Yeah, hence Zarate being shipped off. I totally understand the stance of a manager not wanting to play anyone that's been bought over his head. That's not to say Pardew was right not to play them, just that I can appreciate why he may not have wanted to.
Mullins over Mascherano does still make me chuckle though.

No difference to Allardyce allegedly not wanting to play Sullivan's buys then?
Of course Tevez and Masherano are on a different planet to any of those guys.
Imagine the outdry on here if Allardyce had refused to play Tevez and Mascherano....

The reason the 2006-7 was so shit in Pardew is because we could score goals. We had a run of 5 without scoring. Obviously due to Ashton's absence. It was a bit late to replace him and teh Argies arrived.
I agree though he did get a hell of a lot of stick.
Anyway its all hypertheotical I guess

No. Just trying to point out Pardew's side was hardly made up of no hope misfits who bravely battled against the odds. As it is, I think both teams were probably comparable. I would say Allardyce's team overall was a little stronger.
Both teams were expected to get promoted. Both sides did.

Allardyce just doesn't do cheese as well as Pardew....
He makes me cringe. He was known as cream cake around the club in his time there (because he'd eat himself if he could)

I agree. Both managers have done good jobs but it's almost impossible to compare accurately due to so many variables.
Overall, the players we have now are miles ahead of what we had then.

Do people not remember how bad we were under pardew in the championship?
The terrible performance + substitutions he made in the final against Palace?
We scraped into the playoffs the year we went up. Ok, we had a couple of great nights on the playoff semis, but generally it was utter shyte (mindful of the fact it wasn't the strongest team in the world)
