Duke

The 2-2 aggregate score rightly saw Ajax eliminated.

Doesn't seem harsh to me.

Ajax went out tonight on away goals, after both games finished 1-0 after 90 minutes. Now that is harsh.

"West Ham was a very physical game and we paid for it in the second half of the Monaco game. It's a concern," he added.

It's nice to know that we got at least something from that game.

Great football coach but cunt of a man with zero sportsmanship, always some one else’s fault or there persecuted when they lose or have decisions go against them, see the Monaco coach made a point of it and said he would refuse to acknowledge him at the end of the game the other night after Wenger refused to shake hands and stormed off at the end of the game in the first leg.

True- Chelsea being a case in point.

Try and score one goal away (even if you concede one) and then suffocate the life out of the second leg at home, like they always try to do.

Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
But it can also encourage a home team to shut up shop for the best part of a match?

And in that example, a team that has failed to score at home goes through?

I've never understood the reasoning behind it, as reckon it encourages just as much negative football, as it does attacking.

Think away goals rule usually makes a lot of sense, but it should only apply after extra time in the second leg OBVIOUSLY.

Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
The other thing about the away goals rule is that it positively encourages the away team to get a goal. On regular occasions a 0-0 at home followed by 1-1 away has seen a team go through.

Arsenal have done it for one.

Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
It's bad timing and sour grapes, but overall make him right, as I've never really got the away goals rule.

Team scrapes a late away goal, totally against the run of play, to go down 2-1 away.

Go one up early at home, and then play ultra negative for the remainder of the game, knowing they've got the away goal. At home.

Team goes through...

Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
personally, I think it's the best alternative. replays and extra time put too much wear and tear on the players. there's too many competitions and matches as it is. Not as good for the ratings and ad revenue but better for the sport

I like that.

Someones I don't mind Wenger as he's generally not as much of a cunt as Mourinho, but then he comes out with a load of old shit.

I'm sure he has loved the rule in the past when Arsenal have qualified because of it.

Pretty simple, don't let an average team like Monaco who normally struggle to score 1 goal in a game get 3.

It's what SKY tells them to want, sadly.

For me, even a shite match involving West Ham is far more absorbing than Real vs Barcelona or Man City vs Chelsea.

The modern fan wants (or at least is given) the maximum number of opportunities to watch Barcelona/Real Madrid/ Man Utd etc. That's what they want.

WHATS FERGIES OPINION ON THIS SUBJECT ?

Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
If it needs clarification, 'far better for' means from the point of view of it being better for the big clubs and lessening their chances of a tough draw and getting knocked out.

If it were up to me then no cups would be seeded.

Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
Get rid of all Italian teams (and Chelsea) and this rule isn't needed.

Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
Prefer the way its done in the League Cup semis, personally, away goals count after extra time.

Not a lover of the rule, but understand why its there.

El Scorchio 3:46 Thu Mar 19
Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
Where did you come to that conclusion?

I'm saying the top Euro clubs wouldn't allow the Champions league not to be seeded.

So you think the League and FA cup should be seeded?

Re: wenger is moaning about the away goals rule
I would possibly only enforce the away goal rule after extra time has been completed. That would make for a thrilling extra 30 mins
