Italy Vs England.
Should be a good game this - Kane and Wazza to start up top all though I really couldnt cope with Kane scoring again.

Rooney is 6/1 to score 1st will William Hill looks good to me.

Carrick and Rooney were also impressive. As for Phil Jones, I get a proper panic attack just looking at him.

Barkley got me excited last night. Yes, he does naive stuff sometimes and loses the ball, he's got a lot to learn etc, but fuck me, when was the last time England had a player that can ghost past half a team like he did late on last night?

John Legend played well but he don't half make me uncomfortable watching him. Not sure why, I just don't like the cunt.

Delph is another one of these "why?" players for me. I don't understand why they keep getting picked.

The stats were 0 (on target) for the first half, that is what I thought you meant.

Although having said that, I agree the shot was initially on target and the defender deflected it onto the bar.

Bit of a pointless debate though.

What was Delph doing? Looked completely lost by the time he went off.

I've never understood this idea of playing a centre half in midfield, I could understand it if it was someone like Rio but jones for fck sake. He's not even a decent centre half. I remember when we took phil Neville instead of Scott Parker who had had a great season and he came on to "shore" up the midfield, it was embarrassing, Parker must have sat at home thinking what a fckg joke

I'd prefer him to stick a bit more to the middle. Why is he taking corners, for example?

Other than that, he was a real handful last night. Led from the front.

He even refereed the game against us at Upton Park

Rooney is a complete footballer. Can pretty much do everything.

Rooney is different gear, it's only bandwagon know-fuck-alls that think different.

I know what you are saying but I could've told Woy that Jones is not a holding midfielder before the game even started. Surely Woy can see that in training.

Jones is a fucking maniac of a player. Got about as much composure as Louie Spence on a whizz pill. Fucking holding midfielder? Fuck me. Pointless.

Why experiment? Wilshere can play there. Carrick can play there. Henderson can play there. Even Rooney can play there.

Who said anything about on target, 93?

SSN this morning, 7.05am, Mike WEDDERBURN. Stats by Opta, England has 0 shots in the first half, and 6 in the second. No mention of on or off target. He was talking about shots.

And if you want to really anal about it, Rooney's shot was on target, the defender deflected it on to the bar, same as if a goalkeeper had. So by your logic, a goalkeeper making a save would mean a shot isn't on target either. Great.

Re: Italy Vs England.
only saw the last 20min and thought england played well, just lacked a little composure in the final 3rd.
was refreshing to see some direct running with pace and intent. younger players tend to play without fear.

the first 70mins could well have been shit mind you.

Since when was hitting the crossbar "on target".

The player wants to score, not hit the crossbar therefore his shot is.. you guessed it.. off target.

Rooney is a fucking brilliant footballer.

I wouldn't trust anyone who thinks he isn't to be honest.

Re: Italy Vs England.
I though Rooney was actual top quality last night. Could have scored three or four, and some of the cross field passes he hit were precision deliveries, to Walcott and Gibbs I think?

I'm not even a fan of his either.

Re: Italy Vs England.
He was just trying to experiment with Jones. There could be a time in a tournament where he has to do something like that. You can only take so many players and friendlies are arranged fro this type of thing. I don't believe for one minute that Hodgson believes Jones is better than Carrick but fair play to him for trying a few different things.

Sven Roeder 9:52 Wed Apr 1
Re: Italy Vs England.
I imagine it was some sort of agreement that HODGSON had with managers that some players wouldn't play 90mins.
Carrick at 33 or whatever might have been one.
That said Jones ( who is going to be Man U's greatest ever player according to Fergie) in midfield was odd. Someone like Barkley should have played there or he could have called Ward-Prowse up from the u21's.

I don't understand players playing out of position. Jones is never a midfielder and it does him no favours having to play there and be exposed. As a centre half I think he's ok. Same with Smalling, never a right back, but ok as a central defender.
