Man City and West Ham United; A Special Relationship
Interesting piece on the 1987 game, made more interesting that it's on the City official site. I wasn't at the game but City have always been my second team, good fans. How many here were at the game?

Re: Man City and West Ham United; A Special Relationship
As i mentioned before...Always liked them but can't explain why other than until recently our teams were as terrible as each other :-)

Sample quote and reply from Blue Moon fans forum...

"There is no special relationship. We were simply similar sized in fan base and used to being yoyo clubs. Then we had the grace of our beneficent Muslim investors and they got some bald Icelandic charlatan"

When you say there's no 'special relationship', I can only hope you're correct. If it bears any resemblance to the relationship which spawned that particular description then in a few years City fans will be lording it over supporters of clubs like West Ham. People talk about our fan base changing, but something like that would mark a point of no return for the tone of our support. I hope that day never comes.

Never forget where we came from.

All I remember was us singing,

"you'll be back, you'll be back, you'll be back" to them.

Got to be impressed with how their fans are treated however.

Building a bigger stand and selling 8000 new seats for £349 & £299 for season tickets.

I remember plenty of tough times up there on the old Kippax and in the streets of Moss Side after the game, but generally I always felt they were similar to us in many ways. Similar background and their club overshadowed for decades by more wealthy, fashionable neighbours.

Well said. It seems fashionable to be seen to dislike every club. Personally I don't mind city at all and cheered loudly when they pipped Utd to the league

I was at the game, in the Chicken Run.

The police thought all the West Ham on the pitch were heading to the Man City fans in the South Bank to fight. The City fans sang Bubbles, got applauded and got sung Blue Moon in return. Scarves etc were exchanged

I was at that game, aside from the pitch invasion and mutual love in I recall two things:

A certain P Ince playing at left back and probably MOM.

A combined "We are on hate Man Utd" chant.

They're dissatisfied with their manager, and we're dissatisfied with ours, and we have a special relationship?

Obvious answer...

I'm 42 mate. I have a heathly respect for all football fans and I've always liked City, who for many years were in a different league to us, including the Third division not too long ago.

I didn't label our fans embarrassing, I labelled SOME of them embarrassing. West Ham fans have always been fiercely loyal and very respectful of the opposition. Sadly we have our fair share of know nothing fans who are embarrassing. You could well be one of them mate for objecting to anyone who has a healthy respect for other football fans

Do you remember the time at Christmas when the troops came out of the bunkers and played football, yeah well, we were those troops, Man City were the wankers that got relegated, lets not get confused, let normal service resume.

You fucking div. how many time shave you been !anchester City away? Fucking number game cunts, they also love to pick on small groups. Plenty of reasons to not like them.

Re: Man City and West Ham United; A Special Relationship
There's always going to be hassle between the lads who like a scrap, but this isn't about that.

I was there in 87 as well, and it was unreal. I was in the chicken run and as has been said, we were chanting "Going Down" and taking the piss, but at the end, when we approached their end, it just seemed to change and we gave them a good round of applause. It's a good article, there are similarities between the clubs and I'm happy to say I enjoy it when they beat Man Utd.

I'll leave all the "we hate everyone" bollocks to the Millwall Pikeys. It's very "No one likes us".
